i have been trying to look up oil rinsing and how to do it but none of them say how to dc after. is it taking the place of DCing or people just assuming your not DCing that wash day??...

I do it between shampoo and conditioner. Sometimes before cowashing. Never without using conditioner afterwards

Here's the thread: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=150965
I deep condition every washday (co wash w/Aubrey Organics GPB on dry hair) and then do an oil rinse as my final step. So those are my 2 basic steps. You can oil rinse any way you like, there is no special rule on it. Sareca, the originator, mentions in that link somewhere that she does deep condition on dry hair and then does an oil rinse. She even made a separate thread about it, something like "don't sleep on deep conditioning on dry hair". That's where I got the idea; but I have tried oil rinses in every way imaginable...

^^ To add to that it's what I do. I leave in sik elements mega silk moisture treatment on dry hair overnight mixed with oil, or just oil the day before I wash (or co wash. I cowash mostly with occasional shampoo washes). The oils I use are always coconut (with argan and avocado rotating mixed with the coconut). SO in other words I either use a conditioner mixed with oil on dry hair or oil. Coconut, avocado, and argan oils are some of the only oils that penetrate the hair shaft which means it is not just a sealant but also moisturizes (not just sitting on hair) and also strengthen also they're my go to oils

^So do you do an oil rinse afterwards...or is the oil only mixed in your conditioner? Do you use the oil as a deep conditioner by itself sometimes-- it sounds like that is what you're saying. If so, that's pretty impressive.

^^I guess so. To clarify.

Here's Saraca's suggestions :
  1. Rinse (or shampoo) your hair
  2. Coat in your favorite oil (I've used olive, jojoba, castor, meadowfoam, dabur alma, and aphogee EFA oil, red palm oil/butter--- my favorite is an amla, castor mix)
  3. Rinse with warm/hot water
  4. Apply conditioner
  5. Rinse with cool/cold water
  6. Apply leave-in
  7. Seal
My variation depending on my mood is (WHICH I guess you could consider a conditioner. I consider it an oil rinse/deep conditioner combined as I apply liberally so even though my hair has soaked up some, it's still really slippery the next morning):
    1. Coat in your favorite oil (coconut mix with argan or avocado) and sometimes mix with conditioner. Leave in over night. Apply to dry hair, plait hair (I'm natural it's a must) and wrap to sleep
    2. no need to use more oil hair is still slippery as I apply liberally. Next day Rinse with warm/hot water
    3. Apply conditioner
    4. Rinse with cool/cold water
    5. Apply leave-in
    6. Seal
Or if I'm ready to have a shampoo day I'd do in this order
    1. Coat in your favorite oil (for me that's coconut mixed with avocado or ) on dry hair doing the way I usually do. Again sometimes it's just oil sometimes its conditioner and it's always over night (I like silk elements one I mentioned but use others)
    2. Rinse with warm/hot water
    3. Apply shampoo (cream of nature)
    4. rinse
    5. apply conditioner
    6. Rinse with cool/cold water
    7. Apply leave-in
    8. Seal
