Hi everyone

Sorry to ask for quick help to a rather specific problem!

Long story short; yesterday I had to wash my hair in a bit of a rush whilst at my mother's house, with some different products as I forgot some of mine. I deep conditioned, shampooed, did an oil rinse, and then dried in twists ready for a twist out. However, the conditioner I used to wash out the excess oil didn't do a very good job, and because I was in a hurry I didn't notice. So this morning I have very oily, yucky looking hair, the style is a total mess, and it's shedding like crazy.

Normally I might tie it up for a couple of days until I have a clear evening and then do my 'proper' wash again with my own products, but I have an important day tomorrow meeting and presenting to external clients at work, so I need to look presentable - hence trying to squeeze in a wash yesterday to start with!

If it was just the style that had gone wrong (I'm painfully style challenged so this isn't unusual in itself!) I would just flat iron it ready for tomorrow and be done with it. But isn't it risky to flat iron with all this oil? Wouldn't the oil get really hot and potentially damage the hair? Plus, I think it would still look really oily afterwards.

If I wash again this evening (when I'll be seriously short of time), what would you recommend to counteract this muddle? Should I clarify to get rid of the oil? But then should I DC again if I'm stripping the hair? Should I do another oil rinse at the end and just make sure I wash it out properly this time, or is that likely to cause more problems? If it makes any difference, I think I will have to dry under a hooded dryer and will flat iron for tomorrow - as I said I'm really style challenged and won't have time in the morning to do anything about it if another twist out fails!

TIA - I really appreciate any thoughts you can offer!

I would clarify and dc since you're planning on flat ironing. Use a very moisturizing dc. When I flat iron my dc gives enough moisture so I don't rely on other products afterwards, just spray tresemme heat protectant to blow dry and grapeseed oil to flat iron. But you can leave out the grapeseed oil. Good luck!

I would also recommend clarifying and deep conditioning. Definitely skip the oil rinse after deep conditioning because too many heavy products will coat and weigh down hair when you plan to flat iron.

Thanks so much :) this is absolute proof that you rarely save time by doing things in a big rush and a muddle! I clarified, DCd with humecto and skipped the oil rinse; currently under the bonnet dryer on cool :) thanks again!
