Questions..

Hello Ladies!!!!! I am a newbie
I just joined the forum after reading for months and i have started incorporating new methods of hair care. I just have a few questions that i really can use some help with.

1. I moisturize with jane carter N&S and seal with jbco daily, is there a cone-free moisturizer that is a lighter weight that i can use daily, and if my hair is feeling a bit greasy am i just being heavy-handed?
2. After relaxers I lose a lot of hair, is there anything i can maybe do to minimize?
3. I started cross-wrapping my hair do to thinning on one side from wrapping :nono: i then cover with a silk scarf but my nape is VERY broken any suggestions of better head covers?

I really appreciate all and any help
Thanks !!!

:welcome4:

1. I use Nourish&Shine and I consider it a heavy butter...so following that with JBCO seems like too much (and my hair would be very greasy). If you like Jane Carter stuff you could try one of her other products, the nourishing cream I think it's called (or the leave in).

2. Do you know why you're losing a lot of hair after a relaxer? Is it clumps coming out from the scalp? Or is hair just breaking off?

3. You could try pincurling instead of wrapping and use a bonnet to cover your hair. Also, a lot of people have been having success with Pretty Wraps (I think the website is prettywrap.com).

I get my relaxers done in the salon and when i wash at home after my touch up, i have a lot of hair coming out when detangling and when rollersetting.

Thank you very much ladies for all responses =)
And for the welcomes:grin:

Ok but is the hair broken hairs or shed hairs (they have a white bulb at the root)?

If it's broken hairs it could be that you're not detangling gently or the relaxer is weakening your hair and causing breakage. If it's shed hair, then it should be fine as long as it's not large clumps coming out and no bald spots.

The is no tip, so i think the relaxer is causing MAJAH breakage. grr..I am thinking i need to try a new relaxer=(

Maybe you need to try not relaxing for a while and getting your hair stronger. How long do you normally go between relaxers?

about 6-8 weeks, but since joining and reading i am trying to push for 10-12 (hopefully).

Well don't try to do too much at once. Most people try to add a week each stretch so that way they can get used to it without doing too much damage to their hair.

I'm not relaxed but in my observation I've seen stretchers be really successful when they make sure to keep their hair strong via protein reconstructors (not heavy ones, a popular one is aphogee 2 minute) on a consistent basis and moisturized through DC's and good moisturizers. Basically, you have to make sure the line of demarcation is well balanced and you have to be sure to treat your hair gently so that you don't have a lot of extra breakage.

Check out the relaxer sretcher's support thread or the long term stretch challenge, there are lots of great ideas in there.

Thank you very much for all of your help msa =)

Do you think i can use the n&s as a sealer,or is jbco ok? and maybe change the n&s for a lighterweight forevery day?
I am so new to this whole moisturize and seal thing, i feel like i have nooo idea what i am doing lol.

I actually think N&S can be used as a sealer, but it might be too heavy to use after using a creamy moisturizer. It really just depends on your hair. You'll have to play around with different things. If you already have a moisturizer in your arsenal, try that and seal it with N&S or JBCO and see how you like it.

You should try a creamy light moisturizer, maybe NTM leave in, and follow that with the JC N&S. IMO the N&S is light, and you only need a little, because it goes a long way.

Also, you should prepare your hair for the relaxer. Many women find that using Porosity Control a week or so before their relaxer day. When I was relaxing which wasn't that long ago (5 months or so) I felt my hair was lacking moisture after the relaxer so that's also something I would try to work on more moisture before and after the relaxer.

And finally, if you find that the scarf and/or bonnet doesn't work for you, just try buying satin/silk pillow cases. You can buy silk fabric from a fabric store, I bought a yard of black silk from 7th and Fashion in NY for about 12-13 bucks.

Hope that helps!:yep:
