How many times do you detangle in a week?

Do you get alot of knots, dreading,& or tangles?
Only if my ends are really split.

How do you deal with it?
Moisturize, try to be gentle and eventually trim

How many times do you detangle in a week?
At least once a week. If I try to go longer than that my little corkscrews are no fun to detangle at all.

I hope that helps

Do you get a lot of knots, dreading,& or tangles? No, not at all.

How do you deal with it? Uh, I don't have to? :lachen:

How many times do you detangle in a week? Once, and that's assuming I'm not being lazy and skipping a week.

Mind you, I do not wear my hair out, because I know that will lead to knots, tangling, and dreads. My hair is almost constantly in a 'stretched' state - the closest it gets to fully shrunken up is loose, coated with conditioner, as I'm preparing to detangle it for the week.
I might wear the occasional twist-out (very occasional!) but my hair is still significantly stretched - once my twist-out starts to shrink up, it's time for a new style! :yep:

No Not anymore.

How do you deal with it?

I stopped W-n-g all of the time. W-n-g once in a blue moon and I twist or braid hair at night. I usually dry my hair in twists, braids, or rollers and I almost always braid/twist hair at night. I stopped wet bunning.

How many times do you detangle in a week?
Once sometimes twice a week.

Nope...and I am 4AB APL....I used to, but with a better regimen I barely even have to detangle...and I never comb...

How do you deal with it?
When I did (or if I get a tangle here or there) I use my fingers to work the tangle out gently...or use a wide tooth comb to work it out slowly, and I get no breakage....I started using Joico Split End Mender on my ends, and when I wear my hair in twists, twist outs, etc, I put either that or HE LTR Split End Protectant on my ends to keep them moist, and that has helped A LOT. I alternate between the two...I have seen a HUGE decrease in shedding and split ends....

COLOR=magenta]Full head? Almost Never...when I wash, I run the water all over it, and by the time I shampoo or co-wash by massaging the product on my hair the hair loosens up. I usually get a tangle from rushing to untwist my hair when I am doing a twist out, or if I wear the twist out too long and not wash my hair....Weekly DC's and keeping this protien-moisture balance think in check has helped...I get a lot of slip, so when I part my hair it comes apart effortlessly.[/COLOR][/

Same here. I wear my hair either twisted or in braids or the twist out/braid out....

I did a WNG and ended up twisting it that night...I loved the look but its really good for if you're in a huge rush. I would never sleep on a WNG...or wear it more than a few hours.....I prefer wearing my hair out after its been twisted or braided.

Qualitee You are a mess! Transition already!!:lachen:

Nope, I always keep my hair stretched in a detangled state that way I don't allow my hair to tangle up in the first place.

How do you deal with it?
On occasion, I'll do afro styles where I know I'll need to detangle when I take them down, but they're always done in such a way that it wont cause a setback it will just require minor detangling, either I do a really well defined curly fro via small flat twists or I'll do a huge kinky fro via medium sized flat twists, that lasts like 3 or 4 days....I braid my hair in eight while tangled, get my hair soaking wet then one by one take the braid down, slather with condish gently detangle with my wide toothed comb, rebraid and repeat, that takes me like 15 minutes max, and its very rare I have to do that in the first place.

How many times do you detangle in a week?
I rarely have to detangle....maybe a handful of times per year....the trick is avoiding things that lead to tangles in the first place.

I find that I'm getting more knots as my hair gets longer. But I find that keeping my hair properly moisturized helps reduce them (dry hair seems to want to knot up more).

And I only detangle my hair with conditioner in it, after shampooing. So I usually detangle only 1-2 times a week.

No.

I don't have to coz I do not get them.

How many times do you detangle in a week?

I think it's been over a year since I needed to detangle. And this was only coz I was too lazy to plait or twist my hair for the night.

I just don't let my hair get tangled in the first place. I keep it braided or twisted...in other words stretched in ways that keep the strands parallel. I never let it get wet unless it's locked in one of those stretched ways and I don't wear "wet" hairstyles that allow the hair to shrink back on itself. While I do use S Curl and wear my hair out, I always have it combed out...and that is after it's been in braids and therefore in a state of being detangled. My afro tends to stay detangled until I put it back into plaits for the night.

Prevention is better than cure IMO.

Keeping an eye on this thread because I have been experiencing ALOT of knots and splits lately.
The only thing I'm doing different is that I 'tried' to enjoy my hair over the last 3 months by twisting instead of my usual protective style of braids and cornrows. Knots everywhere and the splits are in the middle of the hair sharf too. I am going back to braids and gona try crochet braids.

Actually, I find them to be decreasing somewhat because I think I'm getting better at detangling.

How do you deal with it?

I'm dealing with it by improving my detangling process. I used to just detangle with Jane Carter Solution leave-in conditioner + oil. I think my hair needs more moisture than that, especially if I'm not going to be dealing with my hair for a few days. I now use my fingers more than I use the comb, and I'm finding that to be very helpful. With my fingers, I am able to remove tangles and shed hair more gently, which results in hair not being ripped from my head with the comb.

I'm also being more diligent about removing ALL of the shed hairs. My issue was that I'd get annoyed at how much shed hairs I'd find, and I would stop removing them at a certain point (:nono:=I KNOW!!!). I remove the shed hairs with my fingers until I see no more, then I start combing from the ends with my wide-toothed comb. Then I start detangling with a smaller-toothed comb. Then I apply Hydratherma Naturals Protein Balance Leave-In (I've been feeling that I need more protein than what I get on wash day, although I do eat a lot of eggs) & the Hydratherma Naturals Growth Lotion & seal with an oil (right now, I'm using grapeseed oil).

I also agree w/ JustKiya & Nonie about not wearing my hair "out" that much. I only wear my twistouts for two days. I may also be seeing a reduction in knots and tangles because I'm doing bigger twists now.

How many times do you detangle in a week?
Usually, at least once a week.

P.S.: I'm sorry about the mini-novel. I didn't know my response was going to be that long.

Do you get alot of knots, dreading,& or tangles?
Yes. I wake up and my hair is choking me.

How do you deal with it?
I don't. If I grab a comb, it slaps it out of my hand like a Pimp.

How many times do you detangle in a week?

At least 20,000 times.

OK Qualitee, those are the answers you are afraid to see!! LMfAO :lachen:
I'm just having fun with you! Real answers are:
1. None of those things. Even when my hair is not straightened.
2. If I am wearing my hair curly, I apply water, conditioner and comb it.
3. I detangle every day. I used to detangle every day when my hair was relaxed. If my hair is straight it literally takes 5 seconds. If my hair is curly, it takes maybe 2 minutes.

I'm layered SL, so my hair is pretty short but I'll answer anyway.

Do you get alot of knots, dreading,& or tangles?

Not really. I've been cowashing instead of shampoo so that cuts down on the knots. I also where stretched styles more often than not.

How do you deal with it?

I prevent it. If I'm coming out of braids or twists, I am most likely to get tangles when I shampoo. In this case I use my shower comb to detangle dry hair then sometimes go over it with my denman.

How many times do you detangle in a week?

I always detangle with a shower comb with my hair soaked in conditioner....at least once a week (if not in a long term PS). If I braid or twist my hair I use a fine tooth comb to detangle/smooth each section before I manipulate it.

Qualitee, you might get different answers depending on how coarse the hair is, length and curl type. Unfortunately natural hair doesn't fit into a one size fits all category.

Did you start transitioning yet?

The longer mine gets, the more I have to detangle. I do it in the shower with my denman type brush under the showerhead with condish.

I usually wear my hair up like my siggie. When I wear it down curly, I start from scratch the next day - can't master 2nd day hair. When it's straight, I don't have to detangle.

I think people expect me to wear crazy afros all the time and really plays with my natural hair. That baby stays in a bun...too many tangles (especially ones you get past SL!!!)

My son is natural and I do his hair.

Do you get alot of knots, dreading,& or tangles?
we get tangles when we comb dry hair that hasn't been combed for the day. :) that is where I step in and do my mommy thang. I bought him HE HH Shampoo and Conditioner and use a deep conditioner in his hair and this has helped with the tangles because he is tender headed I don't want him to get the White Coat syndrome with the comb. I also use detangler spray by Thermasilk in his hair.

How do you deal with it?

When we have tangles we use Detangler spray.

How many times do you detangle in a week?
Once every two weeks when we get our hair retwisted. (we is my son, but I do his hair)
