I know that there a few sulfates. Is anyone able to list them in order from gentlest to harshest?

I would greatly appreciate it.

Here it is:

Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS) - very harsh
Ammonium Laureth Sulfate (ALES)- harsh
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) - still rather harsh
Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) - milder, ok choice
Sodium Myreth Sulfate, TEA Lauryl Sulfate & TEA Laureth Sulfate- good choices
Coconut Soap or Cocamidopropyl Betaine - BEST CHOICE!

After I found out that Aussie Moist shampoo was ruining my hair, I took this list with me when I went shopping for new shampoos.

Soap made from wheatgerm oil is a good cleanser, too. Earthly Delight shampoo uses wheatgerm oil...

Thanks Allandra----

My Suave clarifying conditioner has BOTH Amoonium Lauryl Sulfate
Ammonium Laureth SUlfate

It also has Cocamidopropyl Betaine. I think I'll leave this one for my BF to use up!

Elasta QP shampoo for relaxed hair uses the myreth sulfate, as does a wonderful coconut shampoo I found at the Botanica Boricua in Arlington.
HTH anyone shopping for a milder shampoo.

Well,

I think that's the purpose of a clarifying shampoo--to strip the hair down so that it's build-up free. So, in that case, it should be OK.

Hi Ladies!! So, I went window shopping today and spent a lot of time in the beauty supply store just reading the ingredients list on the shampoos. Damn, near everything had some sort of sulfate today. Which shampoos have the best choice-Coconut Soap or Cocamidopropyl Betaine??? I wonder if I can even get it in Toronto, Canada?

Try a health food store. The only sulfate free shampoos I've seen in the bss are Creme of Nature (regular or ultra moisturizing formula), DPL, Elasta QP and Breakthru.

Does anyone know where TEA-Lauryl sulfates rank on the list? Should I assume that it ranks with TEA laureth?

Thanks
