I washed my hair today. However, the new new growth and the underprocessed portions are killing me. I want to go and get a relaxer tomorrow. Is this too soon? Also the Dominican around my way charges $30 for a relaxer, should I go to them instead of the Afican American place that charges $60?

when was ur last relaxer? also, i would wait at least 3 days b4 getting a relaxer after washing my hair...
btw, it doesn't matter WHO u go to for a relaxer, as long as you are comfortable. if u've never been to either, i would suggest that you sit and watch how each performs a relaxer just to be sure u like their technique. just b/c one place is 60 and the other is 30 doesn't mean their technique is any different, just one is more expensive than the other

yes... that would b fine... although i personally, would shoot for saturday. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Go with who you feel most comfortable with!

I don't understand. is that so the underprocessed portion is more visible? thanks.

u r not, absolutely NOT, supposed to relax wet/damp hair. This is one of the reasons they say do not wash ur hair the day b4/of relaxing.

I have washed my hair and then gotten a relaxer the next day. In fact, I did this with my most recent touch-up. I didn't have any problems, and it got as straight as I wanted to. I did a CO wash and did not scrub my scalp so I wouldn't burn to badly. I put my hair into two braids, and went to the salon the next day. I thought my hair was fully air-dried, but it wasn't. The woman doing my hair took a blow dryer and dried my hair completely, and then put the relaxer in. If I had known it wasn't fully dry I would have took the braids out the morning of to let it finish drying. All this to say, next day relaxer, no huge deal, but yes, I would be completely dry first. Good luck.

I've never done it, but they say that just water is enough to cause your scalp to burn from the relaxer chemicals. Waiting till Friday is probably a safer bet. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

damn, i feel ignorant--i did not realize the importance of having dry hair for a relaxer. thanks. i will let you all know what happens.

I thought they say not to wash or scrub your scalp before a touchup. I didn't know you couldn't get it WET at all. When I self texturize I get the other sections a little wet not soaking wet but it's hard to NOT get some water touching the other sections. Is that bad?

judging by ur album faith, **singing in my r.kelly voice* i don't c nothing wronggggg
with a little wet hair before texturizing...

I've been told since my teens that wet hair and relaxing doesn't mix... makes the scalp more prone to burns, etc. i also heard that 'dirty' hair relaxes better than clean...So 4 those reasons alone, i've never washed right before relaxing...

Thanks CH /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
No I don't wash before a relaxer either. The one I had in August burnt a bit. I forgot I had washed on Monday and went in for a texturizer Wednesday. Good thing I had no scabs /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
But, I just meant I texturize one section at a time and then I neutralize/wash it before I move on to the next section so the other sections get a little wet.
