HELP! My hair just WONT get straight. If you only part your hair into 4 sections, then how can you ensure that sufficeint cream gets into the middle of each section? Do you part it more as you go along?
Also, how much cream do you use? Are your sectiosn completely white so as you can basically not see any hair through?

Even if my strand test comes out straight, the rest of my hair dosn't. Why is this? Is it because I'm so focused on the piece that I'm constantly smoothing?

I've not heard ANY underprocessing complaints with affirm mild, (that's what i'm using) so I think it's more method than process. PLEASE HELP! NO MATTER WHAT I DO, MY HAIR JUST WON'T TURN OUT STRAIGHT!

Soslychic, someone posted a really good thread describing self relaxing, with pics and everything. I'd post the link but I don't remember the thread.

Some women here use two mirrors when they're applying the relaxer so that they can see the back of their heads. I've been relaxing my own hair for a while, so I pretty much go by how it feels. Plus, when you're smoothing the relaxer, you can tell by touching it whether or not a certain section has enough relaxer creme.

Are you giving the application and smoothing processes enough time? I'm 4a/4b and my total time for both is about 18 -20 minutes. Also, make sure that you devote time to smoothing each section. If you rinse the creme too soon or miss sections completely you'll wind up underprocessed.

It's hard to say exactly how much creme to use. I fill half of an old relaxer tub with relaxer creme. I'm guessing that you haven't self-relaxed for long. With trial and error you'll get the proportions right. I hope this helps.

I suggest that you put the relaxer on the underneath hair as well as the hair below your parts. I basically use touch to determine how much cream to use and if I am relaxing the new growth vs. previously relaxed hair. Using the surgeon-type gloves makes doing this easier.
