Ok, I am in braids now and every and anyone I know and don't know very well, keeps asking me when am I going to take my braids out. I'm like, "Dag, it's not you, so why are you worrying if I am or am not taking my braids out."

Well, I don't actually say that. But the point is I feel pressured to where my hair down. I am going to take them out the first weekend in February, which is next week and am planning to just where a (baggie method) bun for two-three weeks just to deep condition my hair. I know people are going to be in my business asking, "why don't you wear your hair down." No one's seen my hair for a long time and it's like they just want to see how long it is.

So, how do you think I should handle this or what should I say?

Thanks:)

P.S. Anyone else ever had this problem?

1. "You ain't paying, you ain't saying!" (I can't claim this line but I got it from another LCHF's post).

2. "When I'm ready."

Ok, I think I like both of these answers but being that I am an introverted person, I will choose number 2. Number one sound like a little snappy, which I am far from. LOL.

I hope number two will be sufficient enough for the naggers.

When I read "naggers", it sounded like the n-word with a country twang! LOL!

You shouldn't feel pressured about your hair.

My hair has been in a french twist with bangs since Septemer of last year. My co-workers are used to me saying I love my hair in an up-do. It is classy and sophisticated..so noone longer asks. They have no idea what I am doing. Just wait:)

Girl, don't let those folk make you feel pressured to wear your hair down. Wear it down when YOU get ready. I don't have to deal with it as much as I used to. Thank goodness. As time goes by, they'll get use to your hair being braided or up. But when you do decide to wear it down. Girl, let me tell you. They will be swarming around like crazy.

Oh no! I know that's not what you meant! That was me and my "complex" mind! You're alright!

Next time they ask when your going to wear your hair down reply "when folxs stop asking that strange question" and make sure you have a lil ole smile on your face. :look:

Thanks everyone. I will have to just let people learn that I will wear my hair up as long as I want, like growinglong said.

I am trying to do what babygurl did and just wear it in a baggy method and braids until I reach my short term goal length which is BSL and my hair is half-way even. After this I still am going to wear it up untill I reach my second goal, MBL. Then maybe I'll wear it down once or twice a month.

Yeah, I will probably say something like that. You can basically say anything with a smile on your face.

Try telling someone, "Why don't you kiss my ****?" (you fill in the blank)

Don't forget to have crock your head to one side like Miss Bey and have a huge ole' innocent, southern girl smile on your face.:lachen:

No, just kidding. Don't try this unless you already do.

People can be so RUDE - they will talk about you and "your" hair no matter what you do with it!

Just keep doing your thing - be it braids or a bun- and realize that these curious georges are trying to make you jump thru their hoops.

I have the same problem. I am trying to do protective styles and my ummm(lets just say Male companion...not quite the bf yet) always asks me why do I always have weave and tells me that I need to wear my hair down and that he "likes girls who wear their own hair." He has seen my real hair through pics only, not in person though (except once when I had a bun).

Anyways I just tell his behind he needs to deal with it until I grow my hair to a certain length it will be in protective styles then I will start wearing my hair down more often. Truthfully, he hasn't bugged me about it much lately. When the hide your hair challenge is over maybe I will wear it out for him......for 1 day :look: .

i also agree with this. I would keep my hair braided individuals for the max 1-2 months at a time. My father would get frustrated and ask when am I "going to get my hair done?" But now he understands why I do this because of all the progress when i finally wear it down and straightened-then hes not the only man all over it!! LOL ;)

Part of my journey and regimen is doing what I want to do with my hair. I started stretching last year, and everyone (including my momma) was talking ish. I learned then if I wanted to reach my hairgoals, I had to do me and not what other ppl thought. If I had listened I would be at square one. I guess to answer your ? I dont pay them no mind cause if I did, I wouldnt reach my goals.hhg

Thanks you all for your reply. I knew I wasn't the only member going through this.

I will wear my bun and wear it proudly.:D

You guys, i go through the same thing. For as long as i can remember, i always do protective styles, with the exception of when i just get it perm or for an occasion. Otherwise, it's in a ponytail or a bun or some king of an updo. Anyway, a lot of my friends always asking me, why i never let my hair down? I'm like cause i'm trying to grow it out.
And last week, we were all going out to the movies and since i have a lot of new growth, i didn't know what to do with my hair (I shoulda done a twistout, oh well). Anyway, they actually took out a flat iron to start flat ironing my hair. I was like you know what, whatever. Let me just sport a "natural" look cause my hair looked natural that day anyway. So i just clipped half of my hair up and it looked like i just did a wash and go. I need to learn better updos though to work wit my newgrowth:) .

I usually do wear my hair out, but I have been wearing my hair up for the past 2 months that I have been at my new job. The main reason is b/c I have so much NG and it's difficult to rollerset. Anywho, some of my co-workers will say "oh, it looks like your hair is long, (judging by my bun) why don't you wear it down?" I just tell them that I wear it up b/c it's easier to deal with that way. (which is really true since I don't want the worry of trying to roll the NG).

I will be getting a relaxer on Saturday so when they see it down next week, they will still have something to say I'm sure.

I use to go through the script about, I'm growing my hair out and the benefits of wearing my hair up BUT the outside world DO NOT understand. My boss was like but hair grows anyway so what's the point and I tried to tell her MY hair grows faster when I leave it alone so now when ppl ask me to wear my hair down...I just simply say, I don't have time to do my hair, going to school and work and I don't like stylist in my hair either using all that heat...that usually keeps them at bay:)

People will do anything now-a-days. Friends still need boundaries.:look:

Yes, the definitely will! Your hair is beautiful btw. Do you have to watch out for the "Let me rub my hand across her head to see if she has extensions" people?

Yeah, I think I will use this also. Good looking out.:)

Now I have a boat load of responses.

Ooohweee!! I'm so glad I don't have to deal with this sort of rudeness!! Thankfully, no body asks me about my hair, no body touches my hair, and nobody for sure tries to tell me how to WEAR my hair - including my husband!

*shakes head* I got the most reactions to my hair when I took my locs out, and I suspect if I get extensions people might ASK about them - but thas about it.

I like the 'It's easier to deal with' answer though.....

that is too true!! This co-worker who saw my hair out pre mishap was like when it was mid blade came to my desk the other day. We talked hair for a bit, then came the questions. I hit her with the "I can't straighten my hair as good as my stylist, haven't been able to keep an appointment." blah blah blah... but I will have to use that line t smith about not having time.
