Question for the Weave Connoisseurs

I intend to get a weave two weeks from now, because I want a different look. However I don’t know maintain the braided hair underneath the weave?

I was wondering if you could please tell me what your Hair Regimen is when you are wearing a weave i.e Shampoo, Conditioning, Moisturizer etc.

The most important thing is to treat it just like you would your own hair. For the braids underneath, keep them moisturized. You can use a braid spray. Some ladies on the board have suggested getting an oil with a nozzle tip bottle. They say it's easier to get down inbetween the braids. But I haven't tried that. I use the same shampoo and conditioner I use on my own hair. I wash and DC once a week. Then I airdry. You don't want to use too many products on the weave because it could weigh it down. HTH...

You said i should treat it just like my own hair, but when i look at the things that am using right now such as Neutrogena Triple Moisture Shampoo and Motions CPR Treatment (the one that has twigs in them), they seem too heavy. I would probably have to change the products i use or dilute my shampoo with water.

What do you think?

So when you wash your hair w/the weave in it, are you focusing on the weave or the braids underneath?

How long does it take to air dry?

What do you do you your hair (and the weave) after it air drys?

What are some things that you recommend one not do?

I just wash it like I wash my regular hair in the shower. There's no science to it. I make sure it gets clean and is free of any product. It usually isn't that dirty though considering I'm not applying a lot of products to it and I'm washing weekly. Airdrying might take a few hours... It depends on what type of hair you're using. I find that the straight hair dried quicker than the curly hair. And of course it dries quicker in warm weather. After the hair dries then I style it... well if it needs styling. I usually wear curly hair so I just let it airdry and go. If I was wearing straight hair I might flat iron it or curl it, if it needed to be done but most likely I'd just run a comb through it and leave it alone. I don't do anything to my hair underneath once it's dry.

As far as things I'd recommend that you don't do, umm don't weigh it down with a lot of styling products and don't buy just any hair. Make sure you check it out in the store and make sure it blends well with your hair if you're leaving hair out. And don't let them put the weave in too tight. Also the darker colored hairs usually hold up better. The color can make it look dry. If I'm using colored hair, I try and mix it or put the dark hair on top. I can't think of anything else. HTH...

What do you mean by twigs? I've used the NTM shampoo before and it didn't think it was heavy. I'm not sure about the CPR. Maybe if its too heavy you can use a regular conditioner? You can dilute the products if you like. By not using too many products to weigh the hair down I meant styling products though.

What i meant by twigs are the herbs inside the CPR Treatment.

Would try to cut down on the styling products.
