What size rollers do you use to get a straight look, how many and what set-pattern are you using? I've tried the grey ones, but I'm not sure if it's that I'm using too many rollers or what. I come out with no curl, but my hair isn't straight either. Should I step down a size in rollers?:confused::confused:

I use the big green rollers but I've also used the gray ones. For straight hair, make sure your hair is dripping wet on the roller and that it dries 100% before removing the rollers. There will be a curve in your hair and some of the ladies do a wrap after removing the rollers so the hair hangs straight down.

My hair doesn't get totally straight because it's not relaxed straight but it does get close and very smooth.

It depends on how long your hair is, but I'd say the greay ones are good to use for getting straight look.

Check out Macheriamour's tutorial/blog for great tips: http://www.healthytextures.com

Thanks for the responses, ladies. Do you still you thin sections or should the sections be a little larger?

I just did a rollerset using macherieamour's tutorial. I have large rollers and so there was hardly any curl whatsoever, but it was very straight like I'd flat ironed it. I think, as Isis says, that making sure you set with dripping wet hair is key. Another thing I did was use IC Fantasia's straightening gel and then apply oil. I have texturised hair and this straightened it out properly! I did thin sections too, which make it straighter. xxx

The larger the roller, the larger the parting should be. It sounds to me like you would get better results using the purple rollers (next size down from grey). That should give your hair body, with some curl.

I agree. I use the purple ones and my hair is APL. To achieve the straighter look, I wrap my hair around after I take out the rollers and go back under the dryer for about 5-10 minutes.:)

My hair is almost APL and I used to use all red rollers but my hair would take forever to dry and would be really curly. Now, I use grey and purple. After I take the rollers down, I spray with sheen, wrap and go to bed. If you want curlier, maybe you should go t the red rollers. I only roller set because I never learned how to blow dry my hair really straight. With the rollers, I get my hair pretty straight. Look at my fotki. If you are new at roller sets....practice makes perfect. One last note: I do think that my hair is healthier with roller sets. This is what has worked for me.

Great information, guys!
I will try the purple rollers with dripping wet hair and a little serum. Thanks again for the help - I'll let you know how it turns out. Keep your fingers crossed - :)

I just tried roller setting and my hair turned out hard. I used setting lotion. What do you all put on your hair when roller setting?

Hey, it was another thread going around like this earlier, and alot of people were commenting on how setting lotion makes their hair hard, too. I personally dont like it, either. I just use a leave-in like Giovanni Direct and water and thats it.:)

For the hardness, I just brush my hair with a paddle brush, spray with some sheen and wrap. In the morning, my hair is bouncing and behaving...
