Ny- I think you were the one that posted about the Ionic condtioning and someone called a stylist and said it was drying out AA hair. Does this mean that all ionic products dry out AA hair?

I also have been searching for information about this method.
I heard something on the news and I found some info here http://www.ishprofessional.com/

I contact them and I was told that the method is good for all types of hair, even relaxed african american.
Does anybody have ever used this?

Hi Luvhair

Yeah, I had posted about ionic conditioning.

I think it was Free2bme who called a salon where owner said the AAs who had it done to their hair found their hair turning dry and brittle, so she no longer performs that service on AA hair. I don't know much about ionic products, though...so I don't know if they're all bad for our hair or if it was just the conditioning procedure (which requires a lot of heat and reportedly lasts up to a month). Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Here's the old thread.

Anyone reading this thread know if all ionic products are bad for the hair? TIA

I'm sorry to see no one else responded to this thread. But here's some information I came across that indicates ionic conditioning from the ionic hair dryers, at best, does nothing for the hair. Paula Begoun Click "Category" then "Hair" and the Question and Answer on ionic conditioning are in the 3rd letter down from the top. So even if other forms of ionic conditioning don't necessarily harm AA hair, they don't appear to help it either.

I think the thing about the ionic conditioning treatment that requires extreme heat to be applied after the applying the conditioner, is that the process supposedly seals the conditioner into the hair -- making the hair impenetrable for roughly a month. Since AA hair tends to be fragile and dry to begin with, blocking out any moisture for 30 days would understandably cause our hair to become brittle and break. It's interesting to note that this ionic conditioning has come so soon onto the market after the hailing of thermal reconditioning (you know, that exceedingly expensive relaxer for Type 2 hair) by fashion magazine editors as the best thing since sliced bread. Now they are discovering the considerable damage that occurs in order for any chemical to leave their hair poker-straight for six months at a time.

Hopefully, the link I provided gives you more of the information you wanted.

I hope anyone with experience in ionic conditioning feel free to also post in this thread.
