Question for Naturals

Is it better to co-wash natural hair while it is braided? If so why?

As my hair got longer I quickly changed to co-washing in braids.
I take each braid out and detangle each section individually...
Washing lose hair is a tangled mess= less breakage.

I don't really cowash, but I think the theory is the same for any type of washing (cowashing, DC'ing, shampooing...). Washing natural hair while in braids works for a lot of ladies because the hair cannot shrink (at least not significantly) while loosely braided. Shrinkage can lead to tangles, because as it shrinks while being washed loose, the hair may tangle around itself.

I don't c-wash per se, but I only get in water ( shampoo DC, etc) in Braids or twists. NEVER out of them. I would shave my head bald.
:drunk:

I'm with SamanthaJ, I always ever wash my hair in braids or twists, whether a full wash (shampoo, condish, ACV rinse) or just a CW followed by ACV rinse. Never having to worry about tangles has made washday a day I look forward to. I'm always wearing small twists or extension braids so I usually don't undo and comb as one might if they had just put their hair in large plaits.

I think it's better if your hair is longish. Mine is not long enough right now to do it, but I'm pretty sure I will have to do it down the road.

Loose braids or twists are the best for me. As the ladies said it cuts down on the detangling.

Even if you take them down while you run the water through them twist or braid it back up.

I don't cowash often only if I want to wear a puff and I cowash w/my hair loose. On my normal wash days I have started washing my hair in braids, when it was shorter though I washed it loose w/o any problems.

Yes and no...When I start my hair is loose, I wet it, slather on loads of condish, then I divide my hair into four sections (using clips), after I detangle, I twist or braid that section...Once my whole head is done, I rinse the conditioner out with the twist/braids in tact to keep my hair from tangling back up.
