I have to use acv about every4/5 days for a scalp irritation I have. Its a mix of one part hydro peroxide, one part AVC and ten parts water. Its actually working.I was wondering if and what effect it will have on my hair? Also what adjustments do I have to make to maintain the quality of my hair?Maybe more moisture? Can I still use my re constructor? If so how often on the protein and the moisture?Help!!

TIA:yep:

When I use my ACV, I mix 1 part to 128 parts (1/4 cup in 2 gallons). I don't know what the "right" mix is, but I prefer to err on the side of caution. I know too much acidity can break down your hair, but I can't tell you what would be considered too much. I think if the pH of your mixture is around 3, then you're getting close to the dangerous zone. Hydrogen peroxide is a mild acid so it adds on its own angle. I've never used it on my hair so can't tell you much about it, and therefore I don't know what adjustments you'd need to make.

To make adjustments, we'd need to know what it is you think is wrong with your hair. Not everyone's regimen works for everyone. I doubt any two people on the forum do the exact same things to their hair. They sort of play it by ear. If it's mushy, they cut back on moisture and increase protein--especially if it's mushy and breaking. If it feels hard and dry, they cut back on protein and increase moisture. How often you use the products depends on how your hair responds.

I use a reconstructor at least once a week, I use ACV twice a week--at the end of every wash. I never use pure protein. I use a moisturizing conditioner in every wash, which occurs twice a week...or in a CW if I feel like one outside of the wash days. I do use shampoo twice a week. I don't use leave-ins/moisturizers. I am 4B but I doubt you will find another 4B doing what I do. The point I'm making is, only you can find out what works for your hair. If something doesn't feel right, then folks can help you fix it with suggestions from what has worked for them. But just asking people to tell you what to do is a bit of a tall order, coz what works for them might not work for you--especially if what you are doing now isn't messing your hair up.

If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

I was asking for suggestions..and isn't that the point of this forum..:ohwell:.I know ACV has certain reactions on relaxed hair..but whateva I'll just go on my own like it was suggested. Thanks for your help though.

Oy, calm down. :ohwell: I didn't mean to upset you and wasn't being mean. In your post, you didn't say what it is you have noticed that was not OK so that we might know what to suggest. In other words, someone says, "I do X, Y and Z to my hair" who are they to add or subtract from it? Unless that person says they don't like the results they get, who are we to tell them they are wrong?

For example, there are people who just use ACV and Shea butter, the end. That's all they ever use on their hair--except maybe water. I would never dream of telling them to change that when it works for them. Now if they said they shared something they were noticing that they didn't like, if I knew a way to fix that, I might share.

I noticed no one was responding to your post and I think it's because people don't know what it is you need. In other words, what it is you're hoping to achieve and aren't achieving so they can recommend a solution.

Good information Nonie :)

I'm glad it's working for your scalp, but it might be too acidic in the long run after repeated uses for your hair. I would keep an eye out for any negative reactions and lower the amount of acv if necessary. I use acv as a final rinse to close the cuticles and the ratio that I use is 1tsp:32oz.

Since you're relaxed you may want to really be careful as peroxide can lighten your hair. Using it in conjunction with ACV on relaxed hair means you have to rinse very well and keep a careful eye on moisture balance.

I do believe that reconstructors can have some sort of protien in them, you may want to read the ingredient list of yours, so you may very well be fine there.

I think that all you really need to do at this point is to check your hair for a while to see if it does become drier using that peroxide/AVC combination. If it does, then yes you should probably consider doing moisturizing DCs for your hair. How often is pretty much up to you as some like me do it weekly, some can't do it weekly and do it bi/weekly or monthly.

Also, I'm really not sure what Nonie said to get your hackles up, but she's extremely helpful in her post and she's said a lot over the years to help me (whether she knows it or not...lol) .

As far as after your wash, what types of things are you using? Do you flatiron or rollerset? Any information you can provide would be helpful in determining what possibly could be tweaked a bit for you.

Nonie, thanks for the info. I do a final rinse w/ ACV once a week and use about 1/2 cup of ACV to about 3 cups water.

I wonder if I should dilute it further and use it at the end of every wash

according to my earlier post,I didnt say I had a problem..I wanted to know if using acv and the acidity would BE a problem. However I did get my questions answered and thank you for that.Whatever else i have to say I will reserve and keep to myself.Again thank you..and I'm being sincere in that.

Have you noticed your hair getting lighter from the hydrogen peroxide? I believe you can still use a reconstuctor. I use one weekly and my hair loves it. I don't do ACV rinses as often as you but putting protein and moisture back into the hair only helps maintain the integrity of my hair.
