just wondering if anybody has beat nape and edge problems and have actually got it the same length as the rest of their hair..if so, how?

Bumping. I have a feeling the key to this particular problem is moisture. I try to moisturize and oil my edges every single day. I don't have a problem with my nape. Knock on wood...

The thing that works for me is not putting stress on my nape and edges by making sure that I am not pulling my hair too tight when I pull it back or put in a ponytail.

Also, make sure you are washing, conditioning, and moisturizing the nape and edges the same as the rest of your hair. I pay extra attention to those areas when I am washing, conditioning, and moisturizing. This seems obvious but it's easy to miss the edges and nape so make a concious effort to apply your products to those areas.

ETA: Make sure when you cover your hair at nite that the satin scarf or bonnet is covering the edges and nape.

What she said. My nape is not the same length as the rest of my hair, but it's longer than it's ever been because of the things above.

Moisture. I think there was a nape grow out challenge here a few years ago and part of the rules was you had to limit manipulation, moisturize it twice a day, use extra moisturizer when back there and also use extra conditioner when conditioning. I was doing that and my nape thrived.

ETA: Also, don't relax your nape at every relaxer if you touch up frequently and if you stretch then relax the nape last.

I'm transitioning and I was was problems with my nape for years. I noticed that when I stopped relaxing my nape, I stopped having breakage. Also, I noticed that a good protein/moisture balance really made a difference. I used Surge 14 and Worlds of Curls curl moisturizing spray and I've noticed a big difference with retention and growth. Since Surge 14 is so hard to find, try using Infusium 23 or 911 leave-in conditioner and a curl moisturizer daily to see if that helps.
