Hi everyone I an new and was wondering if anyone could give me advice about straightening my hair. I have recently decided to transition and I want to stick to my new regimen of washing twice a week. Does any one know will that be harmful or not. If so do you have any suggestions?

Welcom KayKay,

I transitioned by growing my natural hair out to a length that I was comfortable with (4 inches) then chopping off 9 inches of relaxed hair.

I had no difficulties with relaxed hair. I just decided it was not for me.

I wanted my new growth to be healthy and strong so I did not straighten it.

Moisture was the key for me. I managed to grow 4 inches of healthy, strong hair using jojoba oil, olive oil and
Africa's Best Spray conditioner for extra dry hair.
I conditioned every day with Regis Hydrating Balm.
This conditioner is INCREDIABLE!
It softens, detangles, smoohtes, caresses, defrizzes all this and more.
I used Loreal's Smooth Intense serum as well to detangle.
I did not manipulate my hair often. I found that detangling with my fingers and then a large tooth comb prevented breakage.
I did acquired some knots on one side of my hair. This is when I decided to cut. But never breakage.
When you transition you have to take extra time as to not to disturbed the point of demarcation. (new growth ends and relaxed hair begins.)

Thank you Sterry

I still want to straighten my hair though, Because I really don't like my hair just natural like that. I really needed those products though.

It is amazing how you had the courage to chop off your hair like that.
Good job!

kaykay,

I'm transitioning also and I straightened my hair a few weeks ago. I washed, conditioned and moisturized my hair with Carol's Daughter Hair Milk. Let my hair airdry in two pigtails hanging loose. My hair was mostly dry when I then straightened it in small sections with a big barrel curling iron after applying a heat protectant and a smoothing serum. It came out nice and silky. I will probably only do it once a month or every 2 months b/c I want my new hair to stay healthy.

Good luck!

i have relaxed hair but i get relaxers 3 times a year. i just started using lanza strait line products. they are so good and they really loosen your new growth. check out the website. lanza.com
