Question About MTG

I really wanna try this stuff since so many people have had good results with it, especially with the thickening factor. But, I have some questions first:
1.) How exactly do you use it and how often? Do you just rub it in your scalp twice a day or something along those lines? Its probably a silly question, but I am wondering.

2.) Is there a time limit when using mtg? I mean, can you use it if you have braids? Do you have to wait two weeks before or after applying braids or anything? I guess I want the general rules so I know what to do.

3.) Are there any other precautions to be weary of? Or any tips that I should know?

I know these are a lot of questions, but I really have no clue. And I hope I making sense (its 3 in the morning). All I know is that its helped a lot of you on this wonderful forum. Thanks guys!

I use it usually once a day...sometimes everyday...or would do it 3 times out of the week...along with cowashing...so i would cowash my hair and then once im finished that part i would apply the MTG...i dont like it to be too too oily so i wouldnt really apply that much then i would wrap my hair up in a scarf and then usually by morning the smell would have calmed down...i try to mix my MTG with different oils to calm the smell it really to me smells like Sulfer 8..i get a empty bottle that they use to apply color from the BSS and use it to apply the MTG...no i wouldnt rub it in...i did the same with braids 3x a week and then i would wash my hair doing the Robin Woods method...i did hear that it can change the color of some jewelry...i havent had this problem..i dont wear jewelry when im applying it to my hair..and i wash my hands right after...then i heard some people may end up with a rash from it running down...but i guess i dont apply enough to have it run like that...

I use mine every other day and sometimes every day. I do it at night right before I go to bed so the smell won't be so high the next day. I cover my hair up with a plastic bag and then I put a bonnet over that because if you don't your pillow will look like you been using Soul Glo! I put Peppermint essential oil in it to calm the smell down. I massage it in my scalp and the Peppermint eo makes my scalp tingle! Use only a lil bit because it runs so a lil goes a looong way. Use an applicator bottle so that it will go where you want it more and not everywhere. If you decide to use it let us know! HTH!

I usually apply it a couple times a week. I prefer applying it after I wash my hair because I find it absorbs better - less oily and less smelly. :) I bought it a while ago, stopped, and started again about 2 weeks ago. I have a 1/4" - 1/2" growth since then, so I'm happy.

Thanks for all the comments! Since I can use it with braids, I am definitely gonna be investing in this, hopefully I can get it by the end of next week. I am concerned about this smell thing though...whats the best for masking the smell, or at least calming it down a bit as far as what it can be mixed with?

Hey Ladies I'm new to this board and I'm wondering if MTG is sold in stores or if you have to buy it from Shapley's website?

Goodluck Tigi, I have fallen in love with MTG..I do not mask the smell, though the odor is quite strong. But Ive realized once I put it in a night, the next morning the scent seems to fade away.

Opal you can check on Shapleys website for equestrian stores carrying it around your area. HTH

I'm currently wearing two-strand twists with extensions and I use MTG at least 5x a week. I was mixing it with Surge 14 and Avocado and Shea Hair Odor Neutralizer but the combiination is so "wet" it makes my natural hair frizz too much. Lately, I've mixed it with my hair oil blend and it is working out nicely--no funky bacon smell at all. A little goes a long way so use it sparingly. I probably put (and I'm seriously guessing here) about 1/8 of a cup in with my oil blend. What I like most about MTG (because I have yet to really track my hair growth with it) is its ability to cure dandruff. In the past I have had an awful, itchy, dry scalp. One application of a MTG blend and that was gone. My hair has been braided now for three weeks and usually by now I'd be scratching up a storm! Not while I'm using MTG!

Great posts ladies.

I'm back using my beloved MTG at least 3 xs a week, I wear cornrows underneath a 3/4 fall wig. For me, I've been using the Surge Deodorizer Spray to reduce the smell, it's working good for me. Last year, I would apply the MTG after CO washing and the smell would be gone by the time my hair dried. I also use a color applicator bottle for application.

My MTG is mixed with Bhringraj and Emu Oils.

HHG!
