Thats funny you mention that, One day I walked into an Indian store that sells a lot of oils, shea butter, etc. I asked the man for some rosemary oil and he asked me for what, and I said my hair. He said NO!!, I have something much better for you. Then he pulled out some Amla oil which was green and in this bottle and said all the Indian women with beautiful hair swear by this, even women in East Africa, etc. He told me that this oil nurishes your roots, makes you hair shiney and helps it grow and it has the highest vitamin C content than any other natural product. He also told me to concentrate on my roots more when using it. Well if you could see the way he was practically forcing this thing on me.... I was so put off by him. I simple said no, Id like to investigate it myself before buying it, HE GOT MAD!!

and said that I was not listening to him. Well all that pissed me off and I never bought the rosemary or the Amla oil from him, but I did do some internet research and this is what I found, hope this helps Amla oil and About Amla oil Sorry for the long dialogue

Here's some info I dug up about amla oil:

Amla-Indian Gooseberry-Embelica officinalis--
Stimulates hair growth and thickness. A specialised preparation for revitalising the hair and imparting natural lustre. Excellent for texturising rough, brittle hair with split ends.

I've only used Dabur Amla Hair Oil in my pre-poo treatment. It's a blend that lists amla extract third after mineral oil and a vegetable oil blend. I get it from qualityspices.com or ishopindian.com. I like it.

It doesn't smell too good, though. It has a weird spicy-musky scent. The bottle says it can darken your hair, too.

I've heard that Brahmi Amla is good. I've never used it. Check out Dabur.com, too.

It does have a strong smell, but I don't know if you'll like it.

They say that regular application can assist in reducing split ends and minor hair loss. It may also cause light colored hair to darken after prolonged use.

I've used it before. The smell does take some getting used to. My mom says it smells like "old lady perfume". What I actually like better, was amla powder. The mixing might be a little messier, but you don't have to deal with the smell. It only costs 2 or 3 dollars for around 4 or 5 ounces. I mix a couple of tablespoons of that with olive oil and honey into a paste and apply it to my scalp first and then work it down to the ends as a pre-shampoo treatment. I think that over time it does make your hair stronger and it will darken your hair. It is really gritty, so it might take a minute to wash it out of your hair.

I've also noticed that the Dabur Amla scent lingers even after shampooing. It's not like WGO or anything--it's just not a scent that I like. Old lady perfume was a good description!

I have Dabur Alma and it does have a weird old lady like scent to it. That's why I stopped using it.
