Q to those who braid/twist hair without extensions

I have the hardest time twisting the front of my hair, but the back I totally got downpacked. I can't seem to get the twist to lay right. I tried to twist to the side, but the first few to the front just won't stay right. I'm working on making twists amd headband wigs my main style for the GYHC. My nape still is too aneorexic for the bun. I need some tips from the experts on the board.
