Hi all,
I have a quick question. I am trying to take better care of my daughter's hair, she is 3 with I believe type 3B. It is very curly or wavy, more frizzy, fine. I use Sta-so-fro and it give her moist curls. It has a tendency to be dry. Anyway, I notice that when I henna my hair, which I love, it strengthens and makes it appear thicker. I am thinking this will be beneficial for her fine texture, Is she too young?

Thanks for your reply.

Jo.

Bumping for replies. I guess no one has used it on kids hair. I was just wondering if it is safe for them.

I wouldn't do it. She is only three which means her hair can continue to change and you just can't really knw if it will work for her head just cause it worked for yours. There are so many solutions to dryness, etc. that should help you with her hair. Many people, including me, like the Organics kids detangling moisturizer.

I've done henna treatments on my daughter's hair, however, she is 11 with type 4. Henna is a natural product, so assuming your daughter has virgin hair, it shouldn't be a problem. A couple of the women on the Henna for Hair site have used it on their children too; not sure of their ages though. Just do some research and should you decide to go forward, do not skip the harvested hair strand test before applying.

Perhaps a couple of our resident henna veterans will chime in. I've only been on the bandwagon for a mere 6 months!!!

Good luck.

Thanks ladies for your replies. I am using the Sta so fro for her dryness and it is keeping it moisturised, I was just thinking of extra conditioning. And oh yes her hair is virgin I vowed not to ever relax her hair. That will be her decision. Her hair is not "unmanageable" at all it easily detangles.

I henna my daughters hair on occasion and she's four. She has the patience to sit still under the dryer for 20 min but if she didnt I wouldnt do it for her. I suppose it depends on the child.

Thanks naturallady. My daughter is almost four. How has your daugther's hair reacted to the Henna. By the way I purchased your product and will be using it on both of our heads when it arrives. Thanks again.

AAAAWWW! Thanks!

It did very well on her hair. It made it soft and strong. I really liked the results.

I would hesitate to use henna on a 3 year old only because I think it is too young to be doing a permanent process to a child's hair. Event hough henna is wonderful and natural it is PERMANENT. I know that my hair changed a lot as a natural result of growing up and who knows what the cumulative effects of a permanent process are on hair that young. I'm sure it won't be damaging, but I feel like there may be other ways to achieve your goal.

Can you tell us how you do it on your daughter's hair?

I just mix it up as I would for myself and apply it on her damp hair. Cover her head with a plastic cap, and let her sit and do her thing for a couple of hours before rinsing it out. Then I follow with a DC and banding to air-dry. I always do a separate harvested hair strand test for her with each mixed batch of henna though.

There are a few threads on henna, for numerous recipes and how to mix etc. Also check hennaforhair.com which is packed with info.

Hope this helps!
