Is it just supposed to protect your hair when sleeping? Is there another purpose to wrapping? TIA

I haven't mastered this yet but I've learned that wrapping also "straigtens" or smooths the hair, using the head like a giant roller.

I wish someone could explain this half and half wrap to me...

I've seen a million explanations, and I still can't do it.

Tracy,

Look in Kking's album. She has a version of the half and half wrap.

I do what I call a 2-sided wrap sometimes. Imagine busting your hair down the middle (parting) but in the back only. (not starting at the forehead but more at the crown and going down to the nape.

Then you have 2 sides of hair. Take one of those halves and wrap it around your head in the opposite direction. (wrap right side to the left-------wrap left side to the right) The first side that you wrap will lay on top of the side of hair that's still hanging (waiting to be wrapped.) Pin your first side wherever it ends (depends on length) I use a metal curl clip.

Then you take the side that's still hanging and wrap it in the opposite direction. It will end up going below the side that has already been wrapped. Pin the ends where it stops.

I hope that makes sense.

kking's album just finally made visual sense to me SG (thanks to whomever bumped/started that thread...)...

And your instructions do too. I guess what I still don't understand is what you attach the hair your wrapping to , if the side you haven't wrapped yet is still just hanging there - but from kking's pciture it looks like you can attach the hair your wrapping to itself ...yes?

Tracy I wrap my hair the way Supergirl does. You attach the hair you are wrapping to the side that's hanging there and then wrap the side that's hanging to the other side that's already wrapped. I hope this makes sense.

i just started wrapping my hair differently. I wrap it halfway on each side, so that i leave the front smooth. (I can't really explain it, but its a method that was posted here a while ago) This way means that I don't have to manipulate my hair as much to wrap it or take it down. It also looks bouncier and a lot better because the front wont stick up funny on the sides, like it does when i wrap it the regular way.

I'm glad you posted this Keisha! I think I am going to try this method. I hate when my sides stick up!

I wrapped my hair so it would have a 'bend' in the morning. That way I didn't need to use a curling iron.

I used to wrap my hair all the time before I started growing it out. For me it definitely helped my relaxer to last longer because my new growth would be smooth from the constant wrapping, and my tresses would always be silky.

ALL I KNOW IS YOU HAVE SOME PRETTY NICE BODY AND BOUNCE WHEN YOU UNWRAP! THAT'S WHAT I LIKE ABOUT WRAPPING!

its also more comfortable to sleep with your hair wrapped up. plus when u unwrap it, your hair will have a nice style.

This is exactly how I wrap my hair.

I'm a wrapper, it's a nice way to keep my hair in the same style, that way I only use heat initially and for the next week or two I just wrap.

I wrap mine sort of like the girls described except my hair ends up being parted in four, I wrap the two front parts to the opposite sides first, then I do the two back parts.

That is the best explanation I've seen so far. I really couldn't visualize it before. Perhaps I'll try that tonight.

What tools are yall using to wrap besides the pins? Are you using a wide tooth comb to actually wrap it? A brush? Using products to help wrap? Wearing a scarf or doo rag after it's been wrapped?? TIA

I use to wrap my hair every night religiously. However, I think that it contributed to my hair thinning out a bit, so I stopped. Now if I do wrap my hair I would use the half and half method, I find that it is much better with less manipulation. I use a wide tooth comb to wrap.

Hey - here's this thread again. I STILL haven't gotten the nerve to try this on my hair - but I need to.

For those who are interested as well - I had stopped wrapping my hair on a regular basis and noticed that it was not a good idea to do that for me. I don't get any thinning when I wrap. What I DO get is hair tht is always styled, requires little to no maintenance in the AM and hair that is more manageable because I don't have to curl it make it do anything in the AM. It's also easier to get it into other styles (a bun, a french roll) because it requires less "fixing" all around. I can just take the hair and do whatI want with it, because the "base" already looks good....

My hair seems to stay more mositurized this way too. That could be because I automatically use less heat, or because it's "away" for a large majority of the time when I'm wrapping.

I'll be doing a lot of wrapping this winter.

This is why I used to wrap my hair and also so that my ends would be bumped and eliminated the need to use a curling iron.

Ditto!

I wrap my hair to help keep whatever style I have. For example, if I get a press & curl then I wrap my hair so that I can hold on to that style for a few days/weeks...
