this will probably sound very dim but how does pulling a lye relaxer thru yo hair help wit dryness that a no-lye caused considering the fact that the relaxer is permanant and the no-lye will be there till you cut yo hair or it breaks off?? i was wondering about this for a while coz pple were talkin bout how they cud tell the difference they noticed since pulling the lye thru....and one more thing, doesnt this cause over-processing?? /images/graemlins/confused.gif i'm sorry if i sound dim but i was wonderin about this and cudnt figure out an answer

p.s. one more thing i had my hair cut yesterday and must say how happy i am now to have healthy hair even tho it is only 2inches long /images/graemlins/cry3.gif but at least it means that it will take me about 4months for my length to double /images/graemlins/trampoline.gif and thank u to adrienne and all those other pple who suggested the s-curl no drip coz i used it last nite for the first time and low and behold, all my dryness disappeared!! got me touchin my hair every minute coz i'm tryna figure out whose hair this is /images/graemlins/blush.gif and i also started my new regiment today which has the followin
-1000mg of pantothenic acid
-1500mg msm (i hope it dont cause break outs /images/graemlins/crazy.gif )
-1000mg of evening primrose oil (4 the G.L.A. and also coz it helps to get bigger boobs /images/graemlins/blush.gif )
and a normal multi-vitamin

Ngaa, it's called a correct relaxer. I had my done when I switched from a no-lye to a conditioning lye relaxer. You do your roots and then right before you rinse, you have your hairdresser pull it though the rest of your hair in order to supposedly condition the no-lye hair. In my case it didn't cause overprocessing because I had conditioned my hair for 10 weeks prior to and it doesn't stay on that long at all. My hair did feel better afterwards. But I don't think it's really necessary to pull it though you can just touch up your roots. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Best of luck to you with your new cut, I bet it feels wonderful!! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ngga,
people also do this when they have underprocessed their previous relaxers. It called a "corrective relaxer" in this case as well. I NEED to have this done because my idiotic self decided to give the motions oil another try and now instead of 2 inches of crap hair is have 3 at the root.
In the meantime I'll be conditoning the hell out of my hair, every 4 days. and airdrying the whole time as well. I scheduled an appointment with a stylist (this better go right /images/graemlins/mad.gif) 5 weeks from now who will be applying the relaxer. We discussed an overlap time of 5-8 mins after she examined my hair.
Ok, i'm rambling! HTH

Beane, I had underprocessed as well, and basically decided to keep the texture, but just switch to a lye relaxer. I conditioned for ten weeks, every 4 days prior to having this done. Make sure you discuss this process with the hairdresser so that they understand exactly what it is you want done and make sure they put a concentrated protein treatment in afterwards. Your underprocessed hair won't change that much, especially if you used a no-lye. Best to you.

GREAT topic /images/graemlins/smile.gif I have the same concerns, just switched to Motion oil(mild) underprocessed and /images/graemlins/mad.gif I too plan to go to a salon for "corrective relaxer" didn't know what that was until I saw it here. See you learn something new everyday /images/graemlins/grin.gif Plan on using Mizani. Found a good salon that specializes in hair health. Will keep you ladies posted.

Girl, that motions doesn't seem to work for us 4a's & b's. Didn't do a thing to my hair, well it did burn like heck. I recently used a creme of nature mild, same results, no burn. I'm in search of a good mild relaxer.

thanx 2 every1 for explainin bout the corrective relaxer that definatly makes it a bit more clearer /images/graemlins/smile.gif

nah i kinda HAD to do it coz i had over processed hair that wud NOT stop breakin!! no matter how well i treated it /images/graemlins/smile.gif so i figured that it wud be better to get myself depressed about short hair that grows than hair that wudnt really grow coz it wud break so much and knowin me i'd have changed my mind if i had tried to cut it gradually and then wud be kickin myself after relaxin agen coz my relaxed hair dont like braids and so, now that i'm natural i can grow it for a while and then relax it /images/graemlins/grin.gif
