Hello ladies! I have a question for ya. After reading thru all the posts I am still confused about the differences between the different types of conditioners out there. Like I thought that ORS hair mayo was a protein conditioner, when it was more of a deep conditioner. I'm not even sure what the purpose of a deep conditioner is!

Can someone break it down for a slow sista; like say the type of condit, what it does and a few names of some. Any help would be appreciated, as I'm starting to control my breakage, and now am battling tangles, which lead to breakage

TIA

I go by the ingredient list and how the product makes my hair feel. If some kind of protein is one of the first five ingredients, I think of it as a heavy duty protein condtioner that should be used once or twice a month. If protein is lower on the list, then I think of it as a mild weekly protein deep conditioner.

IMO, ORS Hair Mayo is a mild enough protein conditioner to be used every week. But if your hair is telling you it's a heavy duty protein condtioner you should treat it as such.

my take on the two are :

Protein conditioners are to supply the hair with protein to keep it strong, restructure and repair damage - like:
Aubrey GPB,Aphogee etc.

Deep conditioners are more for moisturizing dry hair or just for adding moisture, replenishing etc.
eg.wella in depth, kera care.

There are many others and im sure the other ladies will jump in here. also you can do a search there are many threads on this.
