What are the best protein treatments for natural hair ladies- I need to do one as I have been co washing for the past month, and need to keep my hair balanced. As I will be putting a weave in soon.

Thanks!

A light protein treatment: Aphogee 2 minute keratin reconstructor
A moderate to heavy: Motions CPR critical protection and repair treatment conditioner

^^^^I've never tried it. But I asked a few natural ladies and they highly recommend it for hair breakage or chemical stripping (hair dyes).

It must be followed by a moisturising conditioner though or it will really dry your hair out!

Here's a breakdown I recieved from a natural 4b member:

I use the heavy aphogee because my hair is damaged from chemicals. Heat damage or rather physical damage can be more difficult here my regimen for Aphogee
Aphogee Routine:
1. Detangle your hair completely. You cannot have any tangles.
2. Section detangled hair. Keep it tangle free by putting it into bantu knots or loose braids. Have about 6-10 sections at the most.
3. Wash hair in those sections. (Dilute 1-2 caps of shampoo into about 2-3 cups of warm water. This way the shampoo doesn't get concentrated in one spot in your head or on your hair , you use less shampoo, and you can rinse it out faster.)
4. Apply aphogee. I apply a capful at a time, to each section. I will unloosen the section on which I am working and then pour on the Aphogee. I braid my section back up very loosely and move it out the way.
5.Secure hair so that it does not move. I braid up my sectioned hair and then pull braids up and tie them together at the top of my head, with a nylon stocking.
6. Sit under dryer until Aphogee becomes very hard.
7. Carefully rinse aphogee from hair without moving it. IT WILL BREAK if you are rough or have to comb it out at this point. Be GENTLE. I place my head under the sink and rinse until the product is completely out of my hair. It can take anywhere up to 10-15 minutes. I may not unloosen my hair even at this point. Usually I don't.
8. After the treatment my hair is VERY VERY DRY. YOU MUST DEEP CONDITION YOUR HAIR AFTER THE TREATMENT! (I am not shouting at you. I just want to put the stuff here for emphasis)
9. I usually mix my conditioner, something thick like LeKair or whatever I have with lots of olive oil.
10. I mix in the oil/conditioner mixture into my head by hand. I do not comb my hair at this point.
11. I work in the conditioner on every section of hair. Then I may let it sit for 5 minutes to an hour. I think 5-10 minutes is very good.
12. I comb my hair out section by section, with the conditioner in it.
13. Each section that is combed, I twist out the way or braid again loosely. That is why you don't want to have too many braids. Six to ten is the limit.
14. Then I rinse each section and either move it and tie it up with nylon, adding sections as I rinse and untangle, or just twist or braid up loosely again.
15. Once I get passed this part, I style as usual.

If you don't deep condition afterwards and handle your hair very carefully, you can break your hair. Your hair is at its most vulnerable during and immediately after the Aphogee treatment. Once you get that oily conditioner mix in it, you should be ready to handle the way you are used to handling your hair.

Minimize the handling of the hair after the treatment and only deep condition. Just rinse well. I have my towels and things ready so once I get that stuff out of my head, I can do my process.

You need to wait about 6-8 weeks before you attempt the treatment again.

Hope that helps!

For the Aphogee treatment though, it has a Balancing Moisturizer specifically to use right after the hard protein treatment that puts the balance of moisture back in your hair and it leaves your hair feeling amazing. When you buy the protein treatment usually it's sitting right next to it on the shelf. I know when i do the Aphogee treatment if i dont use the balancing moisturizer and i try to moisturize my hair with something else it never works as well.

I am not sure if this can help - But Yogurt is a great protein condish - without the HARDENING effect.

My protien is:

8 oz PLain yougrt
1 tbls Shikakai powder

This is very helpful. I use it as a pree poo with heat for 1 hr... then follow up with Post poo condish that is moisturizing like - Oyin.

Good luck.
