I think a great protective style for short hair is cornrows. If you are comfortable with wigs, cornrows and then a wig when you want a change or when the cornrows start to look messy, is another way to allow your hair to grow with little manipulation while protecting the ends from the drying air.
when my hair was shorter, I wore a phony pony and took it down weekly to wash and deep condition. My hair wasnt really even long enough to attach hair at first, but I was determined! lol...I had hair combs, bobby pins, and stuff all over the place in my head. Im suprised it didnt blow off my head!
blackhair, thanks so much for the compliment! Yes, just about a year and a half ago my hair was about cheek length(with a little flip in the back)...well, I called my silly self coloring my hair with a semipermanent color and I thought it wouldnt hurt my hair. It was cute, but I overdid it and kept doing it over and over and it permanently died my hair. My hair was so damaged that I went to the hairdresser and they refused to perm it bc it literally would come out right in your hands if you pulled it when wet. They cut most of it off, I had about 3 inches of hair if that....like I said I didnt have enough to even attach a ponytail but I refused to go around looking like woodstock.
It wasnt cut in any kind of style or anything and it was cut down to the new growth with maybe an inch of relaxed hair. It was horrible! They even told me not to get braids or wear a ponytail bc it was too much stress on my weak hair. I did it anyway bc I looked like a hot mess!
so I started doing weekly treatments with design essentials 6 in 1 reconstructor(great product!) and wore my hair in a phony pony and basically forgot about it. I only lightly relaxed my hair about 3 times for that year and in March I started getting salon perms again and wearing my hair down. I hate my hair in protective styles because of my huge head, so Ive just been using no heat, airdrying and doing braid outs, etc and my hair is still thriving bc Ive had 2 or 3 trims and its still growing.
When my hair was shorter I alternated between buns, cornrows, rollersets, and braids. Your hair does not look short to me. I think you hair is a nice length.
My sister has short hair and does chiny-bumps. Elastic bands dont help much but if you can find 'kind' hair bands or pins it will work. It takes quite a lot to wear this look so if you dont like it I understand, pin curls is another option, from what I remember your hair seems long enough...
