Progress Notice: Doing my final rinse with cold water.

I have been doing my hair washes and doing the final rinse( the last rinse after the deep conditioner) with cold water. Well I noticed something interesting, My hair strands are thicker and stronger. To a point that i dont even recognize my hair no more. I even saw a hair on my comb and was like:" i dont wear extensions, who does this belong to." My hair is also very strong. meaning when i take 1 hair strand it's hard to tear it in two, it almost strong enought to cut my finger. I also noticed that my hair is now more perfect. When i wash my hair , my wet hair looks like a nice thick black silky sort fabric...like in those shampoo commercials. I never EVER had my hair like this!

However, my hair is still silky and straight at the same time. Now , i have been doing this since november. I have slacked off my vitamins and I only use mtg on my temples to thicken them up.

I like the way my hair is turning out and i will keep doing the cold rinses.

I definitely love cold rinses as well. I started doing them because my hairdresser would do it at the salon. When I asked her why she used cold water at the end, she said it helped her to detangle my hair. I've been doing it ever since!

Funny you mentioned this, my hair is less tangled as well! The reason why i did it is because it's supposed to seal the moisture in by closing the (hair cuticles..or whatever it's called):lachen:

This is what I do. This is why I use a rinse-out conditioner before a deep conditioner. I use water a little warmer than tepid to rinse out the regular conditioner (so my cuticle is not closed), then I deep condition and rinse out in cold (so my cuticle is closed).

Glad your hair is getting stronger and thicker;) I have been doing my final rinse with cold water since starting my hair journey and my hair is also thicker and stronger:) I love it....

I just started doing this, but only to make my hair shiny...I didn't know it could make my hair stronger and thicker, that's an added bonus...:D

I haven't been doing the cold rinses but I'm using lots of cold, cold water on my hair while rollersetting, before applying my leave-in and oil or serum. I can tell it's closing the cuticles and it really does detangle and add strength and shine. :)

I agree with everyones comments. I have always done a cool rinse. Closed cuticles mean lots of light reflecting off of the hair shaft. I always have shiney hair. :D

For some reason Ive been getting the opposite effect. It actually tangles my hair.:perplexed Im going to try Isis's idea and just set my hair with cold water in my little spray bottle and then proceed to rollerset. :)

Let us know how this works for you Shunta! :)

I tried to do the cold water rinse but I end up with a brain freeze everytime...if only I could do it without the cold water touching my scalp. :perplexed *shiver*

Well, I thought I was one of the people who hated cold rinses. My hair always felt hard afterwards and the water is all....cold and stuff! So usually I would do the cold water then go back and run warm/hot water over my hair.

Tonight I decided to do the cold water only. I rinsed out my conditioner with warm water then rinsed my hair under cold water. It felt hard again, sort of. But I didn't do a hot rinse again.

Detangling my hair was much, much easier. I guess I'll be sticking with cold water rinses.

Now that its winter.. cold water and me don't get along in the shower.. I know tepid water is better for skin and hair.. but how can I stop the shivers while cold water is touching my scalp?!! therefore although I am very tempted to do cold water rinses.. this will have to wait until summer to try this out:look:

I mentioned in my post that I spray very cold water on my hair after I get out of the shower, just before my leave-in. This seems to be working to close the cuticles. Maybe this can work for you too.

oh yeah !! when I do my roller sets I do have to keep my hair and ends wet... so I do use my spray bottle already...I guess I was thinking that the cold water rinse technique had to be done in the shower... thanks for reminding me that there is another option!! :)

Ugh I hate the feeling of cold water touching my scalp too! When I do my final rinses I just turn the water colder than it was before, but its not necessarily freezing cold. Works for me I guess.

A hairdresser i used to go to told me this exact thing, the cold water closes the cuticle.

Me too, I move the knob to the middle, not all the way to the cold side.
