I've noticed that up to six weeks post relaxer no matter what I use my hair turns out perfectly! However once I pass the six week mark it all becomes a struggle. I have to condition more, leave it in for longer. Just more work at every stage from conditioning to styling.

Do others experience this? How do you handle it?

Maybe you need an ACV rinse or to use some porosity control in between relaxers. I find that the reason my hair responds well to products is because its pH is balanced (like after all the neutralizing I do during the relaxing process) Just a thought...

Is it just your new growth, or do the ends behave differently too? When I have new growth, I deep condition for the ends, but follow with a rinse out conditioner to detangle the new growth.

If it's your entire head, then I agree with the suggestion above to use clarify, or if that fails try a porosity control shampoo or conditioner to get your hair's pH back to where it should be. I also do a big protein treatment right at that 6-7 week mark which has helped tremendously with stretching and breakage.

You are right on the money with this thread! I notice that NTM hair mask does not agree with my hair after 6 weeks post relaxer. Instead I have to use protein masks. (hair mayonnaise or salerm wheat germ)
