I have 4b relaxed hair and do regular conditioner washes without any problems whatsoever; indeed, my hair has less tangles and washes nice and smooth with the conditioner than with 'poo. Perhaps you should tell use what you did. What conditioner did you use? What was your method of application and rinsing? Is your hair natural or relaxed/texturized? Does your hair easily tangle when wet or when you use 'poo? Anything else you did before and after the condition wash?

Did you wet your hair in the sink first? I discovered that in the first few weeks after a relaxer, I can get away with this without knots and tangles. But, by the fifth week, because of all the new growth I have, this must stop. It took me a few washes with a little more shedding and breaking than I would like (though not excessive) to figure out that I just better wet my hair in the shower and then get back in to rinse out conditioner. I was wetting in the sink and rinsing in the shower, thinking that the downward stream of the shower would reverse all that hair that I turned up on my head in the sink. WRONG! Last night I wet and rinsed in the shower and I am back to no tangles, shedding or breakage. Sometimes the routine needs to be tweaked a bit in order to keep on seeing the same results. I learned that last night. I know this may not be your problem, but I wanted to share since it is on topic.

washing hair in the shower makes the world of a difference. and i wash my hair in loose braids. i know that you are relaxed and I'm natural, but detangling one braid at a time is easier than just trying to pull a comb thru ur whole head

Bellydancer is right, washing in sections and in the shower makes a big difference.
