Preshampoo treatment = pre-combout shedding???

OK I need to calm down I think I''m worrying too much, BUT, I noticed that now that I pre-treat my hair with oil and a heat cap, I shed ALOT before even combing. Now, on one hand, I always seem to shed alot of hair. I chalk it up to my hair being thick, and I seem to be shedding LESS hair when I comb it out. And the pre-shampoo treating seems to give my hair nice elasticty AND I am getting less breakage - them knots slip right out. On the other hand, it has me thinking *what if the oil is making my hair fall out

* Yeah I know it sounds strange, but I KNOW that pre-treating seems to facilitate hair shedding for me, before I comb. If my hair were falling out how the heck would I know it?

Has this happened to anyone else?

For reference, I'm natural. I need to make up a siggy with my hair type and routine

Why do you feel your hair is falling out? Are you basing that on your fears that it may fall out?

It's dudley's stimulating growth oil. Ingredients = mineral oil, sweet almond oil, medowfoam seed oil, shea butter, retinil, vitamin D, vitamin E, goldenseed extract, a bunch of other extracts, wheat germ oil, etc LOL

I feel a little better now, because now that im finishing detangling I haven't lost much hair OVERALL, in fact I think i'm starting to lose less now that I detangle more carefully.

It's just strange to see most of the hair come out before I even brush it!

Maybe your hair is reacting to the mineral oil? (I say this because it is the first ingredient) I know my hair doesn't take to kindly to mineral oil.

I don't think that my hair is falling out, it just scared me to see it shed on it's own with minimal manipulation, so I was wondering, what if I did have a bad reaction to something in my products or diet, how would I tell the difference between normal shedding vs. bad shedding.

@Tigerlily, next time, maybe I will try EVOO before shampooing to see how my hair reacts to it.

Thank you ladies for replying. I finished my hair and it came out looking really thick and supple (and gorgeous i'm so glad I did it today

), so perhaps hot oil treatments make my hair shed. I'm gonna be on the lookout next time

OT: I cant believe I just spent 3 hours on my hair

You know what, you're not crazy. I am so glad to hear someone else say this. I tried use some olive oil (from the grocery store, extra virgin) as a pre-shampoo treatment. I don't know what it was, but it sure did act funny afterwards. It even seemed to tangle more, and I thought that would be the complete opposite. Weird!
