Postpartum Shedding...........

I found that when I take cod liver oil it seemed to help. I think this happens also because you become too busy with your baby that you forget about eating as well.

Ts,

Are you shedding or breaking ?

Shedding (Look for the little white blub at the end) is a natural part of the hair growth cycle. Everyone regardless of colour or hair can expect to loose up to 100 hairs a day.
I have read some research that certain vitamins will shorten or leesen this cycle. But nothing can totally stop it.

I wouldnt worry about it to much.

After I had surgery for fibroids I had increased shedding. I did some research and sometimes when your body is healing it hyper focuses on exactly that - healing. So nutrients are sent to the vital organs and functions of your body and away from what is not vital. So I started taking prenatel vitamins and that seemed to help. I also had the same reaction the week I put one of my cats to sleep. :( I had hair all over the place.

If you are breast feeding check with your doctor first before taking any vitamins.

Congratulations! and HTH...

I took Nature Plus' Ultra Hair. This stuff stopped my shedding. I breastfed while using but I'd still ask my dr. before trying it.

I started getting PP shedding when my daughter turned 2 months (she is 4 months now). I thought I was going bald...it was REALLY BAD and coming out in clumps. When would remove my towel I expected to look like George Jefferson every time :lachen: . I posted this question about a month ago.

Now I can say that the shedding has stopped tremendously. I am amazed!. I pray it does not return. I read an article that says it can last from 4-6 months...its due to the fact that hair doesn't naturally shed during pregnancy so it "catches up" and sheds all at once after the baby is born. This is what I did:

-I started using Nexxus Keraphix & Emergencee alternating weekly
-I follow-up with a moisturizing conditioner either Nexxus Humectress or KeraCare Humecto for 5 mins
-I bought a detangler (I like Paul Mitchell's detangler but many people here also like Pantene)
-I got a Jilbere Comb to help with detangling while wet
-I use Salerm 21 leave-in and an anti-thinning leave-in like Nioxin Follicure booster or Follicure capsules on my scalp
-I started using Surge 14 about 2 weeks ago on my scalp every night
-My hair line really broke off so I am using Surge, Nioxin Follicure Booster and Nexxus Biotin Creme on my edges (I am not playin')
-Keep taking your prenatal vitamins it is supposed to help a lot (multi if its ok with your dr)
-I also realized I could not do my own hair because of the shedding so I started to go back to the Dominican Salons weekly and bring my products

I washed my hair last night and while detangling in the shower with my Jilbere there was not one hair in the comb I was like..... :yay: ..... :yay: and when I rolled it there was only a small amount....I am soooo happy :D

I wanted to wait a few more weeks to see if it really has stopped before I posted about it but since you asked.... :)

I think the protein cond. really helped a lot..Now I am using Aubrey's GPB protein conditioner prior to shampooing along with the Nioxin line.

If it is pp shedding it will stop....also try not to stress about it even though it is stressful because stress can lead to shedding and you don't want to add to it.

Hope this helps!!!

Ladies,

Thanks you so much for the responses.

It's definitely shedding and not breakage.

I'm going to keep deep conditioning but add cod liver oil tablets to my regimen.

Thanks again.

And apparently if you are breastfeeding you may need to up your protein intake because you baby is taking alot from you. Additionally don't forget to eat well because I know with me I skip alot of meals because I am very busy with my 6mth old. Lastly don't forget to catch up on sleep during the day.
