So my little 15 year old sister is transitioning and she is ,of course, hard headed. Yall know how teens think, they don't believe family, it always have to come from a stranger for them to know its true

Crazy :spinning:

I tell her everything she needs to do, run it down step by step, and whatever else it takes but she still doubts me.

Well anyway, i started a fotki for her and i would GREATLY appreciate it if you guys would add her and give words of encouragement in the help wanted section. All advice is needed b/c she is dead set on heat even though i threatened her and told her i will never str8n her hair again if she does.

Yall this would make my job soooo much easier as far as convincing her of what she should and shouldn't do while transitioning.

She needs everything; hairstyle ideas, detangling advice, and whatever else yall can think of. I greatly appreciate it yall. Thanks!

Hm, I wish I would have transitioned when I was fifteen!! That would of been six years of growth ... I coulda been waist length by now. I was too worried about how others would perceive me. In the end, it doesn't matter. Cause those girls who are rocking weaves and see thru ponytails now ... will still look like that five years from now! Your sister, on the other hand, will have beautiful, healthy hair. All this to say ....

THE LEAP IS WORTH IT :yep:

I was thinking the same thing! But its not that i was worried about what others thought, it just neva crossed my mind to go natural...

My sister started her transition before I did -- just got sick of the relaxers and bald spots and TOLD ME she didn't want another relaxer. Her album link is in my siggy.....maybe it will help. She is now 15.

Just a question -- is she doing this because she thought of the idea herself, or because you convinced her to?

Kinda both....She was telling me how much she hates how thin and flat her hair feels after she gets a perm and she had hadn't gotten 1 since feb.I showed her a picture of how her hair used to be before the perm when she was like 7 and then i showed her someones hair that is just like hers and she was on the fence about it for awhile. I put some twist in her head and gave her some space and she ultimately decided on her own.

I agree with the above poster who said she wishes she had only went natural sooner.
I'm 33 and had been relaxed since 8th gr. (13 y.o.)~ about 31 (so almost 20yrs.).
Like another member here said EVERYONE should go natural later in their life (if they haven't). It's the only way to know if it's for you or not. I worried myself half to death about whether i should from about Mar.08' - the present. But every time i think to myself: Oh i don't have to buy perms, worry about burns/balding (from perms), breakage, etc. I come back to reality. So yes it gets tough dealing with natural hair....but it could be worse. I don't want to sound like i'm against relaxers b/c some ladies have lovely permed hair. But you won't know if it's FOR YOU unless you try it.
Btw..your sister's right...and it probably won't be the last time Sweetheart. Best Wishes to you ladies & HHG!!

ETA: I found the forum in Mar.08' (had just gotten a bone striaght perm). I SLIGHTLY texlaxed for about a year 2-3x that year (so slightly you couldn't even call it texlaxed) just to try and see what it would be like to deal with my kinky hair. Sometime in 09' or before i had stopped laxing in any way COMPLETELY. I'm SOOOO glad i did..if nothing else just to know that i LIKE my hair. Oh, and you could always go back to relaxing (hopefully you won't).

I was ear length mostly when i started Mar. 08' i've maintained at sl for about 1 yr.-1 1/2.
I've recently started to slide on past sl (if i wasn't scissor and heat happy i'd probably be about apl by now).

LOL....ok, so basically you wanted her to do it.

You're a smart girl, and I know you've been here for a while now....so you know that this is going to have to be HER decision, just like YOU decided to learn everything you know now about hair care. You made her fotki, you are (presumably) creating her regimen...see where I'm going with this?
