Please recommend a product to keep hair from "poofing"

I plan to flat iron my natural hair, something I rarely do, in the next few days. I need something to both protect my hair from heat, and more importantly, keep my hair from poofing once I go outside. I can walk from my house to my car, look in the mirror, and find my hair has already "spazzed out." I use Redken Smooth Down before I flat iron, which works as long as I don't go outside. It is a heavy serum, which is ok, but if I use too much, my hair is weighted down and stiff.

Ladies, please recommend a product(s) that will aleviate this problem.

I find that IC Fantasia (The Spray), Is really Good, I have the type of hair that, if I so much of walk thru some mist, it will turn into a cotton ball (and I am relaxed, Yes!), I spray it on while wet prior to Blow Drying and Flat Ironing, and "Vua la"! I have walked out in the rain, of course not letting it actually get wet, but with enough mist that will, sop your hair up and, NOTHING, it stayed just as straight as the Day I Ironed it.

I use Sabino Moisture Blok (LokNBlok) and it stops my hair from poofing after straightening. You have to oreder it though, so I dont know if you'll get it in time for when you plan to Flat-iron.

I also use SBM. It is a little tacky though. I use Aragan Oil ( Sally's) ONLY after the flat iron to give it a smooth silky feel.


Nonie suggested John Frieda spray ( 1st) then the John Frieda serum ( just before the flat iron).

i use sally's version of chi silk infusion... love it. leaves my hair light but protects it from the outside world and leaves me poof free for days
