Please help me type my cousin's hair!

I definitely think there aren't enough classifications for hair types. My cousin's hair shows evidence of 4-type hair, but I'm not sure. She has at least two types of hair-- 3-something in the front and perhaps 4-something in the back.

Her hair is relaxed as of right now, so these pics were pre-perm.

Please be the judge!

Washed, no product, not blow dried

Oops... I messed up the last picture. I'll put it back up soon.

in the last pic the ends of her hair looks chemically processed ...
i really cant tell from those pics .. her hair looks "frizzy straight" if you get what I mean. Like a 4b that blowdried, I dont know what the hairtype is for that

In the second last pic her hair has more texture there than any of the other pics...

It's relaxed :perplexed There is no curl or wave pattern.

You can't tell someone's hairtype by looking at their relaxed hair. some type 3's have the "rough" look to their hair when it is relaxed, so you can't be sure.

I know it's unusual but that was her hair when it was natural! Believe me! We tried to choose pics that showed her texture the best. It's very confusing!

I think she has more of a 3c then 4a but is she relaxed?

In these pictures she's natural, but right now she is relaxed which is why we couldn't take up close, detailed pictures. She is considering transitioning back to natural, but needs to know her hair to prepare for getting the most out of it.

Now I'm not trying to start any trouble but it's official:

HAIR TYPING BOARDS CONFUSE ME :spinning:

Where does anyone see any curls, coils or kinks?

To me it really looks relaxed or at least blown out. In the one picture where her hair is up, you can see that it has texture, but it's up and braided and you really can't see a specific texture.

Not saying that the OP is lying. Maybe the girl has damaged hair, maybe she combed all the texture out... but where in the hay are people getting 4a or 3c from?

Where is anyone plainly seeing either one of those hair types?

I'm confused :drunk:

Using the pics u posted Ill say 3c. I see alot of texture in the 2nd pic. But then again because of the issues people have drawing a line between 3c and 4a I say she's a mix of both. Most people arent CLEARLY one or the other. They are usually a mix of types and sometimes blur the line between 2. Its not an exact science and the longer you stay on the board youll realize it doesnt make THAT much of a difference.

I completely agree with this statement. I see absolutely no curl pattern at all, and already i see members shouting out 3c/4a. Very confusing.

My own hair type is somewhere between 3c and 4a... I go with 4a. It's not a big deal imo.

It's just that... I'm perplexed. I must be blind because I don't see any discernable curl pattern on the girl while a bunch others do.

I agree that she does have some sort of curl pattern from looking at the pic with the updo, but it could be any type from 2 to 4... I wouldn't just guess it without seeing TRUE curls/coils/waves/naps popping.

I'd like to see her hair down and curly/nappy. Whatever curl she might have is really undefined.

Unless I'm totally wacky in the head and don't see it.

Not tryin' to be funny or anythig but her hair don't look like 1, 2, 3 or 4 anything to me. It just looks frizzy... did she use a lot of heat when she was natural?

I understand your confusion! That's why we came on here to ask. Even my mother has a funny in-between texture that is more frizzy than kinky or anything. I think there should be a hair number for frizzy hair. Like 3.5a or something lol.

I appreciate all your opinions!

I believe she did use a lot of heat-- blowdrying, ironing-- and she braided often. But, looking at her baby pics-- I never saw a definitive curl pattern. She did say her texture changed at some point in her life. It got thicker and more unruly.

I will ask her to grow her hair out for a while and we'll come back to see if there is a difference.

She lost some of her curl pattern by blowdrying, however there are some people who don't have a lot of curl pattern. My hair in front and on top of my head is just like hers.

Hair is just one of those crazy things because I don't see any 4a,b,c natural in those pics.

It looks 4 something, 7 weeks post, with a week old blowdrying or flat ironing job.:ohwell: Sorry OP but I don't know how to answer you question.
