I'm gonna throw out an HP or Acer. Both are affordable and high quality brands. And you get alot of bang for your buck. My mom has a HP that she bought for 400 bucks, and it has crazy HD space, looks beautiful, works like a dream, and has good features (webcam, microphone, advanced graphics card, etc.).
I personally have had awful experiences with Dell. My Dell lasted two good years and one year on it's very last leg...the trackpad and keyboard didn't work at that point. I hung on for dear life to that thing. But the customer service is terrible...every time I've had a problem with my computer, I had to fight with techs who tried to tell me that it was my fault and I had to pay. I didn't pay in the end, but it took alot of talking and even a few threats.
I say get a Sony Vaio! I love mine! I had a Dell and it died after 3 years. I also work for QVC customer service and most of my calls are about how their dell's are acting up or Dells customer service lack of care and ability to solve problems
I have a dell cos its what I could afford. My husband had his Sony Vaio a year before mine. Mine stopped working without the powercord a few days before the warranty ran out. Would dell do anything? No, that sort of thing is not covered by warranty. Hence I have a laptop that is not mobile. My Dell has to have the cord in it constantly, and its a common problem when looking on the net for other dell users. Thanks Dell, Never again. I also recommend getting a warranty with whatever laptop you chose that covers, theft, accidental damage, repair etcetc.
