Anyone here a recovering bleach addict? Has anyone sported a superlight hue before? How long did your hair grow whe it was that light? Any ultralight hair stories?
In 2001 I got chunky CHUNKY bleach bright blonde highlights. It was cute but my hair was completely wrecked. My hair was right at my shoulders at the time. Once my new growth came in it was even more of a nightmare because of the drastic difference between the bleached strands texture versus new growth, plus it looked so much thinner. I was still lightly relaxed but always always airdried curly because I was so afraid of breakage and trying to hide the texture. It was a
to detangle, and it tangled so easily. I never had it retouched, so it was a hideous grow out that to this day, on my very ends, I have a trace of light color from trying to tone it back to normal over time. (a hairdresser didn't respond to my wishes and died my roots honey blonde so then I looked like a wannabe beyonce clone
)
Although it was fun initially, I'll never do that again. Trying to save my hair was what got my looking on the net for hair advice. Off the soapbox now.
I just bleached my hair completely out. Hey Karonica!! I need to update the color thread. I had been trying to use high lift blonde hair color, but it wasn't working, so I just went for the gusto. I have bleached my hair now about 3 times and it's currently bright yellow all over.
I'm trying to figure out how I can get that beige/blonde/light brown color. I was trying to get it up as light as possible, but I don't think I'm going to test fate any further.
I was thinking that I might go on to a salon at this point since I've bleached it out. I will say that I will never do this again myself. I've done it in the past, but never to this extent, with this much hair, and as cautiously as I did this time. I waited a week between bleaches, kept protein and moisturizing conditioners in my hair.
I have found Revlon's Porosity Control conditioner to be a complete lifesaver. It is a fabulous detangler...and my hair is hard to detangle...
Now that it's bleached out, I'm going to have to do the press and curl or kiddie perm thing... Hopefully I can find out how to do the Dominican root blow-out and maintain it that way... I'm going to have an afro this Summer, but I just had to color my hair!
i alway bleach my hair allthe way up if you want a beige blonde after you have bleached to the color of the yellow like a banana peel you can then use a color like blondest beige with 10 volume 10 volume will only deposit color nothing more , you can use any color you like with beige tones jb
Thank you! I have been trying to figure out what colors to use. Now what color yellow do you go up to? The outside banana peel or the inside? I read that each will give you a different shade. Also, what bleaching products do you use and how long do you leave it on? I'm going to look up the colors you mentioned, but do you use a toner or just a color? I really don't know what the difference is, but I bought a neutral brown dye and a Champaign Beige toner and I was going to mix about 1/4 of the brown with 3/4 of the Champaign Beige...but if I don't have to do all that, it would be great...
aprilbiz to the yellowpeel color i usually use clairol complements gel lightener with 20 vol ume and 2 bleach packets that is to lighten my hair as it is dark brown sometimes depending on how my hair is feeling i 'll do it again as it may have not gone all the way up to the yellow banana peel color just make sure you condition !condition !condition the reason i use complements is because it is supposed to be formulated for relaxed hair that is why only 20 volume you can use 40 it will take you there quiker but the damage and end results may equal broken dry brittle hair that if it doesn't break then in a couple of weeks it will trust me been there i mean you can mix your colors if you have an idea what the end result will be or you can always do a test strip some where like behind your ear i normally just use the regular colors wih 10 volume but if you want a brown blonde sunwashed blinde is very nice but then so is beige too champagne, you can always go to the clairol color chart www.clairol.com hth you can alway pm if you need some more info jb
Thanks so much Janisloren... I used the Champaign Beige toner by itself and it toned it down a bit, but left me with a very Honey Blonde color. I am going to look for the colors you recommended because what I have now has too much yellow/gold color.
I had bleach blonde highlights put in my hair, for me, the color was awesome but it made my hair so weak, I mean it broke down the structure of my hair strands down to like wisps it seemed like, it got really bad so I decided to dye it back to black a couple of days ago and this for me is really working out alot better. I think what happened with me is that I have fine hair anyway, I can't do all of the extra stuff that I want to do, my hair is better off left alone
Is this blonde enough? These are in my album. In order to get the level of blonde, I had to use bleach with a 40 volume lift. You can't take black hair to this high a level with rinses or easy treatments, you will get an orange or yellow or brassy tone to it. All the color has to come out, then deposit the color you want. I used shades like ash blonde, light brown, and other variations in between. The thing is- as much as I love the color, and I love the way it makes my skin look darker and more even toned, it is a seriously HIGH maintenence color. You can check my album and see the harsh contrast as soon as the roots show and how lazy I got about touch ups, and let that hair grow right on out, roots be damned!!
Thanks, K!
It can be a complicated process at first, but you're getting a lot of advice on this board, so you're off to a good start.
I just use the developer (40- I know a lot of people say it's too harsh, but I have 2 bottles of 30 that never got my hair any lighter than a yellow, and after the color deposit, it looked orange or brassy) with a powder bleach- one that says 'blue" in it, can't think of it off hand, but it's one in those little packets. Stroke it on, sit for 30 min (it gets HOT, like a lye relaxer!!), then the rinse (ahhh, nice and cool) then after light towel dry- no rubbing- deposit the color, usually Nice and Easy, since it has built in highlights, but over the years I've used other brands, no toner. Then after the color process, some form of deep or leave in condition.
Now, remember- my hair is 100% natural, so I have more freedom on the harsh chemicals of coloring. I don't recommend this at ALL for anyone who is relaxed or texturized, it wouldn't surprise me if someone's hair fell out if they had some sort of relaxer and tried to do what I did to my hair.

HOW LONG DID YOU LEAVE THE TONER ON?
[/ QUOTE ]
I left it on about 30 minutes. Now I'm very upset because I used the light brown color I had and it is way too dark. It's a weird brown/bronze color. All that work for nothing. I was too lazy to go get one of the colors you recommened so now I've messed everything up.
Mermaid, your blonde is beautiful! You wear it very well! You're lucky to be natural. I'm doing this madness with a relaxer! eeekkkk.
As Florida Evans used to say "damn, damn, damn"...I had my heart set on a really light sandy/beige brown color. I'm officially finished trying to color my hair! (this week

Thanks!I really love the color, but I'm too lazy to go about all that for now, so I have black hair for the first time in about 9 years!!
You are one brave chicky to do all that on a relaxer!!! Your hair must be a very good shape to hold up after all that!!
My last color touch-up, I had 40 developer put on it and I think she used bleach packets too. I had some breakage at the ends, but that part was already unhealthy. Thank God the rest is doing fine. I'd do it again in a few months.

Yes we like to live on the dangerous side
I have been lucky so far. I have conditioned the heck out of my hair though. I used Aphoghee FDH treatment after every bleaching and piled on other conditioners. Dark & Lovely Ultra Chloesterol mixed with grapeseed oil does wonders...
