Everytime Ms. Flo comes to visit, I get these small pus filled bumps on my scalp. (I get about 1-2 per month). Just when I manage to get rid of one, it's that time of the month again:wallbash:

Aside from the pain it causes, my hair continues to grow. The pimples never make my hair fall out or anything, but THEY REALLY HURT:cry3:

So after dealing with this crap for damn near my whole life, I finally went to a dermatologist and she was no help at all. Basically, there is nothing she can do.:nono:

She just told me to continue applying the pimple cream to get rid of it. Anyone have a better solution?:perplexed

That looks like a bump from an ingrown hair. I've gotten a few of those before but I don't know any specific cure.

I'm bumping to find out more too.

Nope, no ingrown hairs...the dermetologist said they are caused from a homonal imbalace...or some crap like that:wallbash:

Have you tried chelating or at least clarifying once a month, close to that time? I know for a while I was getting these on my scalp although I'm not sure if it due to a hormonal or chemical imbalance because I was on meds, but I found that my scalp felt a lot better when I chelated. Just a suggestion...

Youch!

I'd suspect that the hormonal shifts are actually doing one of the following things.......
1) It's causing your scalp to increase it's oil production - you might want to try extra clarifying shortly before your time?
2) It's causing the chemistry of your skin to shift, and making your scalp more sensitive to irritation? Maybe try to not use anything that's not SUPER mild on your scalp shortly before that time?
3) It's slowing down the recycling rate of your skin cells/they aren't shedding as rapidly/cleanly - maybe an aspirin rinse/some form of exfoliation to encourage the cells to shed off?

I hope you figure it out, either way!!

Thanks for the advice!!!

According to my dermotologist, it is common for some women to get pimples during their cycle. Some get em on their face, back...etc. I just get mine on my scalp.

She also said that it could be topical eczema, but she ruled that out b/c they only appear during my flow:nono:

I will definately clarify more during THAT TIME...:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Do you think it could be a staph infection??? When I went to the doctor about mine a couple of weeks ago, the doctor said that everyone has staph on their skin but sometimes it can get infected depending on how clean your skin is, kind of like yeast. All women have it but it flares up every so often. I was told by one of the women on LHCF that I should mix tea tree oil into my shampoo. And gues what it worked!!!!! It started clearing up along with the use of the antibiotics. Maybe you can use tea tree oil on your scalp during your period. Tea tree oil is an antifungal. My doctor said that staph loves to hang out in and around the hair follicle and we have hair all over our bodies but the doctor also said that most African Americans come into the ER about 2 or 3 times a year for staph infection because our hair grows curly and a combination of sweat, heat, and tight areas are a breeding ground for infection. My boyfriend has another staph infection on his butt. He just had one a year ago. Hope you feel better and check out my thread called Staph in the Scalp.

I get 2 zits like the OP in the very same spot 2 days before my period starts.... if my period is late, the bumps are late

try not to bust em when combing your hair.... put something like Bacitracin on em with a cotton ball as much as possible

Id avoid acne meds cuz lots of em have peroxide and ya dont want that in your hair

Yeah, I don't like putting acne meds on my scalp! Thanks for the tip!
When I'm late, my pimples are late, crazy!:spinning:

I'm pretty sure its not a staph infection. She tested me for it. :yep:

I will definately try the tea tree spot treatment...Thanks!!
