Hi ladies,

I'm currently trying to do a 15-20 wk stretch before my next relaxer, I've read the rave reviews of both phyto and butter blends and I am now undecided about which one to try. They both sound great but I need a little help to decide which one to choose. I wanna know the good the bad and the ugly. I'm especially interested to hear from you ladies who have used both, which did you prefer and why? I would also be interested to know what you think of the full product lines, my thanks to you all in advance

PS: I tried to find if this thread has been posted before but I couldn't find anything.

Yes both are good relaxers but I am not a fan of no-lye relaxers so for me I wouldn't use the phytospecific. Usually for most people(some people's hair does fine with them) no-lye relaxers are great for the scalp and more harsh and drying on the hair.

Mizani butter blends is a great relaxer and IMO is the better of the two for the long term health of your hair.

When I first became a DIY: I was in a Quandry on what to use. I had SE Lye Mild, Phytospecific II (which I ended up selling in the Exchange Forum) because I ended up making a "Conscious Decision" to use Lye instead of No-Lye.:yep:

I also had Alter Ego Linange Shea Butter (lye) and Lastly Mizani BB Lye (Regular). I used the Linange twice but wanted to try the MBB to 'compare' and was extremely pleased with the results of the Mizani and very happy I made the switch. (Although Linange was also a good relaxer IMO)

Going Forth, MBB will be my relaxer of choice. I ended up selling the new unused Linange.

I just relaxed with Mizani Butter Blends no-lye sensitive. I really loved the results. I've never tried Phyto, but I read some reviews where it left their hair extremely dry. Check phyto.com. There are some do's and dont's with this relaxer(unlike other usual one's seen on other relaxers). For example, it states not to cut the hair before relaxing(??). But I really love my results from Mizani.
Side note:I used Motions Mild lye for about 5 years, and eventually it made my scalp sore and my temples were thinning. I used no-lye when I was younger and had nice full hair. I don't know why I switched, but I'm back.
The neutralizing/chelating from Mizani left my hair very soft and not stripped. Actually, my hair was soft even after rinsing out the relaxer, before neutralizing/chelating. This will be a good buy because it's a two for one product. It's a liter size and runs between $17-$20 bucks. I also bought the Honey Shield to protect the hair during the relaxer process. I ended up not using it because it had a water consistency that I didn't like. If you're looking for bone straight results, Mizani is a good option.

MIZANI BUTTER BLEND ALL THE WAY!!!!

Phytospecific has a very high protein content so continued use can be very drying to the hair. My stylist only uses it on color treated or severely damaged hair.

I really like both, but Phyto left my hair a little dry each time I used it. I haven't had any negatives with Mizani BB.

I've never used Mizani so I can't compare but I've never had dry hair issues using Phyto. Just really soft shiny hair. The drawback is the price but I relax twice a year.

mizani seems like a great relaxer (never used) and if they ever discontinued phyto that is probably what I would use. but I love phyto, it has not been drying for me and agrees with my hair totally.

I've used both relaxers and Mizani Butter Blends is hands-down the better of the two. They are both good relaxers, but Phyto dried my hair out over time. I think Mizani BB has more moisture or something in it that doesn't produce the same effect as Phyto had on my hair.

What she said!!!

Ditto to everything.

I will add that if there was no more Phyto I'd definately go with lye. I wouldn't use any other no-lye relaxer.

I have a spin off question: Which is best for texturizing?

I used Phyto and i think my stylist used it because i had damaged/weakened hair.

And after using it I found out that my hair is protein sensitive and am constantly moisturizing.

The fact that someone stated that Phyto is heavy on protein on these boards was a  moment for me.

Now I am thinking that if I switched to Mizani Butter Blends after my longterm stretch that my moisture retention issue would be taken care of and I wouldn't be quite so sensitive to protein products.

Note: I'm only interested in texturizing like 1-2 times a year so my priority is that I need Mizani to be as kind to my demarcation line as Phyto has been. I've had smooth sailing stretching with Phyto and will only switch if that can be maintained.

Anyone texturize with Mizani? and then attempted long stretches?

Or better yet switched from texturizing with Phyto to Mizani and noted the differences?
