Can anyone give me the phyto relaxer ingredients? I have been searching for the longest and all I keep seeing is that "soy and egg complex." I am tired of that dangit, I want the real ingredients.

Anyone?

Hi LocksOfLuv,

I know. That is annoying when researching online. I think you may have to look on the box itself, if I remember correctly. It is listed on there.

The picture below was taken in November and is one month's progress from the picture in my avatar. (The precious little one climbing over my shoulder is my little 21-month-old grandson. He wanted the camera.

Lol, looks like your grandson wanted a feel for that hair too. Your hair is so pretty. Just as all phyto users. I might want to venture the phyto way.

Anyone who is willing to copy the ingredients from the box?

YW!

Ooops! I forgot to list the inductor for Index 2 -

Water, Guanidine Carbonate, Xanthan Gum, Propylene Glycol, Yellow 5, Red 4.

This isn't a lye relaxer. I would be bald.:ohwell:

Thank you. :)

I think you will really like using phyto. I will see what I can do about getting the ingredients for you. I recently used my second touch up, so I don't have a box handy. BTW, the PhytoSpecifc website has been done for a couple of weeks. I don't know what is going on.

Guanidine Carbonate is an alkaline, organic salt utilized primarily as an ingredient in hair straightening and depilatory systems. When combined with calcium hydroxide in (no-lye) hair relaxers it reacts to form a less irritating system than sodium hydroxide-based (lye) systems. It also is used as a buffering agent and a pH adjuster.

Okay...got this...but I'm looking at the ingredients for the straightening cream....and there's no calcium hydroxide listed...

Wikipedia:
Propylene glycol, known also by the systematic name propane-1,2-diol, is an organic compound (a diol alcohol), usually a tasteless, odorless, and colorless clear oily liquid that is hygroscopic and miscible with water, acetone, and chloroform. It is manufactured by the hydration of propylene oxide

Propylene glycol is used:

Safety

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined propylene glycol to be "generally recognized as safe" for use in food, cosmetics, and medicines. Like ethylene glycol, propylene glycol affects the body's chemistry by increasing the amount of acid. Propylene glycol is metabolized into lactic acid, which occurs naturally as muscles are exercised, while ethylene glycol is metabolized into oxalic acid, which is toxic.

Wikipedia:

Xanthan gum (C35H49O29) is a natural gum polysaccharide used as a food additive and rheology modifier. It is produced by a biotechnological process involving fermentation of glucose or sucrose by the Xanthomonas campestris bacterium. It was discovered by an extensive research effort by the United States Department of Agriculture, which involved the screening of a large number of biopolymers for their potential uses.
One of the most remarkable properties of xanthan gum is its capability of producing a large increase in the viscosity of a liquid by adding a very small quantity of gum, on the order of one percent. In most foods, it is used at 0.5%, or even as low as 0.05%. The viscosity of xanthan gum solutions decreases with higher shear rates, this is called pseudoplasticity. Foods need high viscosity at low shear rates to be stable but, when consumed, they must not seem thick and heavy in the mouth. Due to the pseudoplastic properties of xanthan gum, it can seem thin in the mouth (fairly high rates of shear) but still have good stabilization properties. Unlike other gums, it is very stable under a wide range of temperatures and pH, and is accepted as a safe food additive in the USA and Europe, with E number E415.
In foods, xanthan gum is most often found in salad dressings and sauces. It helps to stabilize the colloidal oil and solid materials found in these products. It is also used in frozen foods and beverages. Toothpaste often contains xanthan gum, where it serves as a binder to keep the product uniform. In the oil industry, xanthan gum is used in large quantities, usually to thicken drilling fluids. These fluids serve to carry the solids cut by the drilling bit back to the surface. The widespread use of what are called horizontal wells and their demand for good control of drilled solids has led to the expanded use of xanthan gum. Xanthan gum has also been added to concrete poured underwater, in order to increase its viscosity and prevent washout.
Xanthan gum has also been used to bind fine tobacco solids together so that they can be formed into a strip that is used to extend the normal cut tobacco leaves.[citation needed]
There are claims that xanthan gum can cause gout attacks in some people
