Thanks for the compiment. I've been really trying to grow my hair out. I was happy with the layers at first, but then I got sick of them because that was the only style I could wear. I try to make sure that I oil my ends with jojoba oil daily and not put too many chemicals in my hair. What's your hair care regimen?

Beautiful pics! I know how you feel about those layers. I chopped off 4 inches November 2001 then 2 more February 2003 to get rid of most of my layers(I still have one...grrrr) but I know I will never EVER get layers cut into my hair again.

Thanks a lot, I'm really determined to get past my bra strap-hopefully down to my waist! I tell you, the last few weeks before getting a perm is the worst for me! I know it's the best thing anyone can do for their hair is try to stretch those touchups. I believe that's where a lot of women go wrong by getting them done too soon. I've heard a lot of women say that if they don't get a touchup really soon, their hair will start breaking off. I don't know if you've ever read Cathy Howse's Growth II book, but she made a good point. Basically she said that women are literally pulling there hair out and they don't think that they can wait to get the touch up. Between the 2 textures (new growth and permed) you must be really careful on how you "take control" of your hair which means not to tug on it while it's fragile. Not to mention to deep condition weekly (I know all of you know better!) /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the compliments Cami. I always thought no-lye was better for my hair, before I discovered hairboards. Actually the no-lye is better for your scalp and the lye is better for the hair shaft. No-lye contains a chemical called sodium hydroxide that leaves calcium deposits on the hair shaft, which eventually dries tha hair out. Here is an excerpt I saved from somewhere. I just can't remember where at the moment:

<font color="blue"> Calcium hydroxide (the straightening ingredient in no-lye relaxers) has a pH that is as high as or higher than sodium hydroxide (lye) relaxers. But they don’t straighten and smooth the hair as well as lye. This may not be a problem if you have a loose curl pattern. But kinkier hair strands will be dried up from the inside to the outside. Anyone with a natural curl pattern that is tighter than Gloria Reuben's should stay away from ammonium, calcium hydroxide and thioglocylate (sp?) based hair straighteners. Maybe not immediately, but eventually your hair will end up under-processed, dry, dull and hard. Then it will start to break. </font>
