I just started wearing one yesterday, so I wanted to get you all's thoughts. Myhair is very fine so braids with my own hair make it look thin.

My hair is fine too and the phoney ponies usually give great a great look. Just make sure you switch it up because my fine hair will break if worn in the same position all the time.

They look nice on some people, but personally I do not like them. I guess it's better than braids if you have thin hair.

Got one in now. I love that I can be "protecting" my hair and still have it look neat. I have several. Great especially for protection from the summer heat. Switch up your pony position and you should be fine. Oh, and don't make it too tight.

I have one that not only matches my curly texture, but the color as well. I wish I had bought more, b/c I can't seem to find this color anywhere else, and what I THOUGHT was a 4 is SOOOO not a 4, according to several of the bss that I went to

They were ok for a season. I get headachese easily even if my hair is in a loose ponytail. Plus where the pony "combs" into the hair and you tighten it was a weak spot for me. I threw away all my weave hair and phony ponies in April and decided to wear my real hair.

Yeah, colors vary. I wear a 2 (dark brown), but a lot of these 2's look like 1Bs(off black). It's best just to take it out pack at the BSS and hold it up to light. Especially because a lot of these BSS's have no return policies.

They look good if they are natural looking. :) I personally wouldn't wear one but I think lots of ladies can pull it off.

Personally I don't wear them and I have never seen a person find one that looks like their hair texture. I think they are horrible but hey, that is why I don't wear them.

My best friend swears up and down people mistake her phony pony as her hair. Being that we have been friends forever I can comfortably tell her those folks must be blind. Her phony ponies make her happy so as girlfriend have done for millions of years they keep on truckin no love loss.

Personally I'm not trying to trick people into believing the phony pony is my real hair. Everyone knows my hair didn't go from shoulder length to down my back overnight  It's just a quick and easy way to change up my look.

I think phony ponytails are a nice option when it's done right (texture match, relatively realistic length, etc.) I had to pull back from wearing them (no pun intended!) because I was getting breakage in the crown....

I like them on everybody else but me. Most of them seem to overwhelm my small head and the combs start bugging me around mid-day. I have a couple that look ok but even with those I tend to be a little self-consious. I've found that my best options are the curly textures that mimic my own hair and the shorter lengths. After coming to those realizations, I figured I might as well wear my own hair.

No way! Those look great! Where'd you get it?

The only one I've found that didn't look ridiculous on me was the UPA.

ETA: I love phony ponies when they don't look phony. They're a great way to change up your style, but still keep your hair protected. They are also a must for stretching.

okay, i am only using it to try and grow my hair. I dont even wear the ponytail cause I pull it back in a bun. Should I use it for HYH till December?

What ever you do just make sure it's on securely. At the rink one night, this ladies long silky phony pony went sailing through the air while she was skating. Yikes... and a few people rolled right over it. People were laughing so hard, the DJ had to stop the music and tell people to behave. Needless to say she left the skating rink in tears. And she has never come back.

Okay, this is terrible, but I'm LMAO at the visual image. It's terrible for the girl and her ran over pony though.

Sareca- I bought it from a local BSS. I'm still searching for another one that blends the way that does. I really need a new one because my hair has grown and gotten thicker so the cap is small. I have to wrap hair around the base to hide the underneath.

I wore a phony pony (pic below) for two years while I was transitioning and it helped immensely in terms of achieving/retaining growth. I got tons of play when I wore them too, so the fellas definitely didn't seem to mind!

However, I do agree with what some of the other ladies said about being careful to switch them up, because your hair can break off if you don't change the position of them, and or take care of the hair underneath.

Wow,that's too bad. Mine have sailed off my head serveral times while salsa dancin'. I finish the song (it's illegal not to), put my hair in my bag, and go back to dancin' just like nothing happened. :yep:

Good for you...when something like that happens, the best thing to do is laugh at yourself and keep it moving. But ms. thang at the rink comes across as being very uppity so everyone took delight at seeing her humiliated. It's been 6 months ago and people are still laughing about "the flying pony"
