Personal observations on hair care

I'm not even sure now if this deserves a thread but I needed to express this some place.

I've been watching way too many videos on hair care and I think I noticed 3 different categories of hair care styles across the board.

Category1. Generic/Commercial brands for Shampoo + Conditioner types.
Category2. Mixing DIY Natural hair care products + Oiling techniques + Generic/Commercial brands.
Category3. Strictly natural/DIY hair care products and routines.

From my observations the 2nd category is rather huge and I think it's more 2 with cat. 1 and 2. The 2nd category should probably be split into 2a/2b.

I came upon a video from I believe the early 2000s where a Hawaiian woman and white woman were being interviewed for their extreme hair length. Both of them discussed hot oil treatments, protective hair braiding. It made me think...

I first wondered about the types of shampoo women who break their hair growth plateau be using. Do they select a shampoo without silicones, SLS etc.? As I did more research by watching the hair routines I noticed that this wasn't the case for many. They use generic brands like Garnier but then combine it with a hot oil treatment or some eggs/yogurt mix. They might have a heavy duty shampoo somewhere in their stash but will work with whatever they feel like. Many don't care much what type of shampoo they use. But again many others do. It's not a one-size fit all and the best practice is to listen to your own hair/scalp needs.

The majority do incorporate a form of hot oil treatment, DIY mask or a homemade shampoo or anything else really they concocted up in their kitchen at some point in their hair routine.

Even the few ones I saw using only 2 products were still mentioning some level of 'natural' product or hair scalp massage at some point.

What I'm learning is that the further you look for some extreme hair growth secret the more basic the tips end up being. Sure, the ingredients will always be exotic and more exciting than the next one, however the way the ingredients end up being used? Not so much.

I myself have started to add a bit of 'raw' materials in my routine and I'm seeing some improvement in my hair. When my hair was at it's peak, I can vaguely remember being strict with my routine, having a DIY concoction and a generic shampoo in my routine. Even though my hair is currently going through a faith challenge (lol) I still want to share my thoughts on what one needs on her (or his) journey: a healthy mix of a bit of everything. A bit of traditional with a bit of mass produced staples.

I believe one should always be open to learning new tricks as life will life and our bodies will body... In the skincare community I see people can be so so dismissive of the DIY girlies and I never understand that aversion. The entire beauty industry stands on the shoulders of nature, history and tradition...literally:spinning:

I'm truly in awe of the universal understanding women developed when it comes to their hair care.

Now is it possible that the ladies of the interwebs don't tell the entire story? That they hide going to a salon and using heavy silicone and what not in their routine? Of course! That's why it's most important to pay attention to what works for you at all times.

Thanks for reading ;)
