Perm did not take!

My relaxer did not take, how long do I have to wait until I reapply it. I would really like my hair to look decent for Thanksgiving. I did the relaxer on October 23, 2003. Can I redo it next week.

Your relaxer did not take at all? How long did you leave it on? Is it just underprocessed? From my experince, I had my hair dresser years ago apply a relaxer on under processed hair after 2-3 weeks (can't remember) but I do remember that the hairs on my hair line and back area fell out! Regardless if your hair did not come out as straight you wanted it, it still processed a bit. I think you should be patient and wait at least 6 weeks and give yourself good moisturizing and protein treaments.
You can also pass the flat iron on your roots only as an option to give your roots a straight look.
When you do retouch the underprocess hair remember that it will take less time to process than your new growth. In other words, be very careful.

Yea I agree. DO NOT redo the perm. It is too soon. My mom always waited about 2-3 months for me to redo my perm. If you put it in too soon, your hair can fall out.

Alright. I won't redo the relaxer but I am really disappointed. It was like right after I had the relaxer done it looked as if it had taken but now it looks like it relaxed some but not all the way, it looks poofy. This is strange for me because it is either overprocessed or not proccessed at all. I just got some of the Garnier fructis 3 minute conditioner and the hair is still combable for now but I think that if I wait until like the begining of December maybe I will be able redo it then.

This happened to me last year November. I waited until my next relaxer appointment (with a much better hairdresser!). I didn't want to risk the health of my hair putting another chemical in it so soon. It was worth waiting that 8 weeks. I just did loads of conditioner washes until the time came.

Its def. worth waiting

I will try to make it last but it is going to be tough. I got some more scrunchies so if push comes to shove I can wear a bun until touch up time.

I think there is a difference between "the bonds not breaking" and "underprocessed with curl pattern still in." If it is underprocessed, I would wait it out, at least 6 weeks. I know its frustrating because I have been there a few times myself. If the bonds did not break at all, I would wait about 4 weeks. If at that time there is a lot of shedding, I would retouch that area, but I personnally would not go through the smoothing stage. I would just apply, spread and rinse. This is still risky though.

If your hair starts to break I'd re-relax I was just looking at my journal and in August I relaxed on the 2nd of Aug myself and was horribly underprocessed and so I went to a salon for a touch-up on the 21st. So tthat was a little less than 3 wks and my hair was not worse for it, in fact it would have been worse if I had kept it underprocessed because my hair would have surely broken.

Do you know why your relaxer didn't take?

Right now it is not breaking I think that if I calm down and plan carefully that I can make it. Right now I am having a good feeling about the garnier fructis 3 minute conditioner. My hair was extremely soft, silky, and smooth looking. If it looks like that after it is dry, I will consider it a keeper.
