there's this black girl in one my classes with heavily highlighted blond, extremely thin, shoulder length hair. every class, she walks in with her hair down, shaking it like it was oh so long. her friend has hair that is healthier looking but i've seen better. ok here's what annoys me: they're always playing in each other's hair like their length is so amazing. to me it looks like they both need a good shampoo but i just try to look away while sending them telepathic LHCF vibes and hair advice

You should just do your thing...and when/if you feel comfortable to approach them, maybe you could impart some knowledge on them...or not:lachen: Either way...continue to work towards your own successes and let others chase you.

I was once that girl;) I would flip it and shake it all up in folks face:lol: I knew I was the ish! I have pics of those days and MAN my hair was tow up, but I still don't care. I'd pass those pics out in a flash! Shoot I loved my see through ends:p Reminds me of simpler times:)

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lol::lol::lol::lol:

LOL- I was thinking that same thing when I was on the train and this lady kept playing with her hair and it was so thin- see through thin!!!!

This thread caught my attention because I've been wondering lately if that's my problem. My hair is BSL and naturally thinner than most people's hair--but it's thick to the ends--no ragged thin ends on my hair. Tonite I was asking my mom if I needed to just cut it off because I've lost a lot of it over the last year.

Some might call my hair see-thru, but I've been doing the LHCF trip for some time now, with good results--for my hair. So you know... some folks are just working with what they've got. Healthy hair can be thin and see-thru, if it's just naturally thin. Or if, as in my case, someone's been going thru some intense thinning because of a problem they're working on. We just unfortunately aren't all blessed with thick, dense hair. It haunts me. :(

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that. I bet your hair is beautiful! My problem is that some people think that their hair is better than mine, but their is all broken and dirty, and they try to give ME hair advice.

Maybe I should clarify- I call thin see-through chewed up ends hair that just aint working!. If your hair is thin and on point- absent overprocessing and to much of something that causes it to thin out then I don't think this message applies I classify that as fine hair (which is my hair type).

These black girls in my class like to look at me and be like "Mmm.. mmm..." I heard them one day saying "Why she always wearin braids.. she must not got huur on her head; tee hee hee!!"

SMH
I just kissed my teeth and rolled my eyes cause I actually felt bad them. Both of their heads looked like...ugh. The one girl had short hair with red and yellow streaks. It was soooooo shiny, definitely from grease, and stiff. The kind of stiff that you know, when the wind blows and everyones stuff is blowing away, her hair would be at ATTEN-HUT!

One day I'm gonna take my hur out and just be like "Gosh, it's sooo hot with this hair on my neck, ya know, Kelly?

ya'll trippin - I definitely got my laugh on with this thread!!!!! I know how you feel Caribean Diva. Some people are just happy to have and work with what they got. lol. I know I will. And I have see thru to up ends but then again I don't be walkin around like yea my hair is the bomb either.

If people think their see-through hair is the bomb, what's the harm? What are they supposed to do, cover up their hair in shame? Or wear someone's else hair?

I am all for working toward improvement, but in the meantime, it's good to love what you have. I know people with supposedly great looking hair who are still unhappy with it.

I agree!

Yall are always making people paranoid and wanting to go and get trims. That's why I made my hair blunt the last time.

But yea, if they're not acting stank toward you, what's the harm? Let them get their fingers greasy and nails dirtys from playing in each others heads. :lachen:

 I agree, especially about the bolded. I love to see black women wearing their own hair. Hopefully, if it is damaged, they will find someone to help them and give them tips, but I ain't mad at anybody that wears their hair proudly, even if it doesn't look like my idea of nice hair.

girl what kind of class is this that they are playin in there hair...thats crazy...that just proves that alot of women are clueless about hair...and once they get some length to it...they dont know how to act..know matter even if the length is see thru and raggedy...

I agree with this 100%. I think it's great when people love the hair they have. Why not? Hey, if they think it's beautiful, good for them. It's much more pleasing to see that then to hear people complaining about their hair, IMO.

;) Maybe they are jealous inside about YOUR thick hair, and are flaunting their LENGTH to feel better about themselves.

I know that when I wear my hair down, sometimes I notice other women touching/playing in their hair a bit self-consciously. I think this because I've felt that way myself, when another woman with gorgeous hair walks into the room. I'm like, dang she just put me to shame!!

I would have to agree with this I would much rather see a female rocking her OWN hair than wearing a bad unhealthy looking weave, that’s the worst in my book.
Maybe they are just learning how to take care of their hair. I think when a chick wears a bad weave and is not taking care of her hair its worse than a female with uncared for hair outside of a weave.

I am not sure why I feel this way tho, because sometimes weaves look very good, I guess I feel like she is cheating or something… if it looks good I am not bothered but when its obvious and sloppy I feel like its somehow bad for all black women and people will look at my real hair differently

Yeah, what kind of class is it?? They need to be payin' attention to the instructor!!

It bugs me to see black women with seriously damaged hair try to flaunt it. I think it's pathetic. I don't think it's pathetic to have thin, damaged hair (we've all been there), but flauting it is delusional. You have to recognize the problem before you can stop perpetuating the bald-head-black-woman myth.

Also, thin hair is different from thin/damaged hair. I've seen a lot of sistas here with enviable thin hair. :yep:

ETA: Now that I think about it, I don't like pride (in the biblical sense) of any kind for any reason whether it is justified or not.

Girl I know we are paying attention to the same thing. We know they can't be learning much in that class if they playing in each other hair like school girls. Too funny!

Hahahahaha! Yep cover it in dead Asian hair!

I agree! It's those women who critisize (sp?) my hair when theirs isn't any better.

I don't understand why people even have to make comments like that. Is that the only way to feel good about themselves--by tearing other people down?

I don't think there's a problem with that.
The problem comes when they act as though their hair is better than yours because you wear braids, or wear it natural or bun it up... and theirs is out. It's like, because your hair is hidden, you automatically have bad hair or something.

I agree.

My hair is a HUGE work in progress, but I know I'm cute, even if no one else thinks it. :) Who cares. I see women depending on weaves and braids only for their haircare. I am always happy to see black women without that.

Yup, me too!

OT: How're you liking SF? I was just there today. If you can, go to the mall there, it's huge! I need to go to SF more often...

I am loving it. We have been all over the place! Actually we are going to pick up a rental car and head on up to Sonoma today. It will be a nice change. We will be back in SF monday for one more day before heading back to the east coast. I have really had a great time. :)

If it bothers you maybe direct them to a site for haircare advice...or just sit in front of them so you dont have to see it?

What I dont like to see is those fried dyed and layed to the side hair-do's. Nothing is wrong with weaves hey:look: she may be doing the crown and glory thing. But the crazy hardend gel crimped up deep fried hair days are over:cool:
