Hi, my search thing is still not working but I remember you said in a thread I think "Do not comb air dryed hair"

Could you elaborte on it or post the link.

Thanks

I meant to ask you at the time I saw it and got into something else and could never find it again. Sorry to bother you

No bother!

IMO - airdried hair shouldn't be combed at all. If you are smoothing it into a bun, mild seriously abbreviated brushing with a soft brush is the most I'd do. And even then, only at the hairline.

Airdried hair tends to dry "around itself" - individual strands dry wavy, and curly, and some of them straight, and in just a generally "non uniform" manner - and when you try to pull a comb through that lots of breakage can result. It doesn't have to - but why take the chance is my motto?

Thank you I have noticed this "different formation" and get breakage.

esp combing right out of the shower (after leave ins) there's been a ton of hair on my shoulders and back.

Now do you mean after it's dried or during the process?

I mean after it's already dried...

But if you are getting breakage during your WET combouts that could be a number of things...

Do you follow Cathy's conditioner (if that's what you're using - I think so - yes?) with a moisturizing conditioner? It could be that...a little protein overload -nothing a little dose of mositure can't fix...

It could be that you need a better detangler - one with more slip.

It could also be that you need a relaxer...are you due for a touch up soon?

It could be any of these - and perhaps even something that didn't immediately spring to mind - whaddaya think?

Mindymouse,

The search feature is working for me. Are you still having problems with it? I wonder why.

Tracy you are so right. I have definately learned my lesson (although it me a lot longer than it should have to catch on).

Yeah I do use the UBH, (every other wash)usually followed just by a creme rinse or Vo5 Instant.

But this particualr time was my "off" wash and 2 wks post relaxer. I think you hit it about needing a different detangler cause the comb out is not great.

Thanks for that info. I'm certainly gonna practice hand smoothing/finger combing.

I agree - the creme rinse or V05 should do the trick....
You know your hair best - it's gotta be the detangler.
Whew! I'm glad we've found the culprit...Can be just losing hair!
