Hi nita,

Yes, I have used Mr. John's techniques without any damage to my hair. Now, I hear from others that he has been saying that moisture is bad for the hair and my thing is...to each her own because I'M NOT GIVING UP MY MOSITURE FOR YOUR IDEAS...MR. JOHN! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway, the technique that worked well for me was when I was using the pressing comb (I use the curling iron now) but he said to press the hair starting from the ends which really helped. I have since learned another technique that he mentioned that works and that's using 5 GoldnHot electric pressing combs. Put the dial on 17 and rotate the combs. He said the key to pressing is that the comb must have constant heat or it will pull the hair out straight from the root.

Hairfanatic,

Thanks for the response. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I am very interested in purchasing his book after reading the your post. I have decided to grow my relaxer out and I think pressing periodically would help. I just want to make sure I'm doing it correctly and eliminating any possible damage. /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

From reading the post I can understand some of his recommendations regarding pressing.

But, totally understand sticking with the moisture!!

But, what could you recommend to me as far as products?? Right now I'm using the Dudley's creme press. Should I be using a heat protectant? What about conditioning? Should I deep condition with protein more often?

I like the old fashioned hot combs, /images/graemlins/smile.gif I can work those better then the electic ones. I just need at least one more to keep consistent heat.

Anything you could share would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Nita,

Dudleys is good but broke me out too much so I went back to my KMS Flat Out Relaxing Balm. I use this after I spray a little of my leave-in, then blowdry on cold. Afterwards, I section into four sections and put a little of Nexxus Botanic Oils on then press with a curling iron. The KMS is a defrizzer and heat protectant in one. There is the New Image that everyone likes also that you can buy at Sally's.

I don't necessary concentrate on a lot of protein but some good ones is the Aphogee Reconstructor and Balancing Moisturizer. Aubrey Organics GPB is also good. You can do the Balancing conditioner one week than do the Reconstructer the following week that way you won't get protein overload. You can also try the ORS Mayonnaise which every one says is good. I particularly love the Dark and Lovely Ultra Cholesterol. It conditions well and detangles which would be good since you are growing your hair out.
