i just had some microbraids put in by a young lady. it cost me $85. How do I maintain this style. I have already had some of the braids to slip out. I used the straight human hair which I think may have been a mistake. Any feedback will be helpful.
hey levette, i really like yo pic by the way /images/graemlins/wink.gif
and about them micros, i had mine done 2 weeks ago and one thing that i know is important to do is NOT TIE IT TIGHTLY coz i like my hair-line jus the way that it is /images/graemlins/smile.gif and like normal braids i use braid spray to keep them moist and 1/3 infusium 23, 1/3 activator and 1/3 water and alternat every day between the two and am gonna be washin them every 2 weeks and after my conditioner washes i apply some olive oil creme to my scalp to make sure it aint dry
ngaa /images/graemlins/drunk.gif
p.s. ask londongirl about how she cared for hers coz i kno that she has had them occasionally
Levette, I have micros now and it feels like I wasted money. The first time I washed them two slipped out and now at least ten are holding on for dear life and it hasn't even been a full month yet. I'm taking them out next weekend when I get my order from Tenderheaded.com.
Levette,
Wow, $85 for microbraids? It costs $140 to get mine done and because I'm picky I choose to purchase my own hair. I buy human yaki hair when I get my hair braided because it holds better. Also the African braiders I go to braid it in a fashion that they never slip out of my hair even when I wash it weekly. I don't particularly like the straight human hair because it's too shiny and of course the slippage.
legs,
Are you able to wash your micros. When I had them I used a scalp cleaner by ORS. The reason I ask is because i see you are natural like I am. I didn't wash my hair when I had micros in because my hair would revert and not blend in with the staright hair that was used. At any rate, I had no slippage. I think this is probably because my hair is natural.
well originally, i was supposed to be going to the african hair shop to get it braided. they told me one price on the phone. when they saw my hair, they hiked the price to $200 plus i had to buy my own hair. so i got this girl to put it in instead. now i kinda wish that i had went to the african hair shop.
I used to use ORS herbal cleanse also, but I stopped using it becausse I felt it really wasn't doiong th job considering the price. Last summer I started washing my hiar weekly. Yes, my own hair does revert in the braids, but it is not noticeable and I can braid myself. Overall, washing weekly allows my braids to look fresher, longer and my natural hair benefits greatly.
hi legs the yaki human hair you buy what brand is it and how much does it cost could you maybe post a pic of the brand you buy? I buy the straight human hair and i do find my braids slip alot especially in the back i thought it was my braider i guess not lol. Also how do you wash your braids?
Levette, the slipping may have a lot to do with your hair being relaxed. Do you get the extensions braided all the way to the end? When new, human hair extensions tend to unravel easily, so if you can keep braiding them to the end and probably apply a holding spray especially to the end of the extension, they might hold better. I know some people like the ends open, but I prefer the ends braided so I keep redoing any that come out. I have noticed slipping happens a lot to people with short hair because the human hair sorta unravels up to where their hair is and then there isn't much to hold it in place; but that doesn't seem to be your problem coz your hair is long. Still it might help if you make sure the braided part extends way beyond your hair.
When they attach the extension they shouldn't pull your hair so it hurts but once the braid is underway, if they can braid it firmly (ie not loose) to the end, it might hold better. In other words instead of your hair doing a relaxed wave like a ~~~ it does one more like continuous S loops. (Sorry I don't know how to explain that better.)
Another thing that might help the human hair kinda get used to staying braided (coz it will stop unraveling so much after a while) is to spray it with water or oil/water or serum/water mixture to moisten it and then do two big French braids on either side of your head. When your hair dries and you let id down carefully you'll have a braid out look and the waves may help hold it in place better. If you prfer to wear the braids straight, you may have to learn up do styles that sorta prevent it from hanging down until it learns to stay on. Especially the hairline where you wouldn't want any that come out to be seen. You could make a parting and sweep them to the side of your head, lining them up neatly as they go diagonally across your forehead and pin them on the side above your ear.
And last but not least, if you can learn how to do the braids yourself...by watching others getting their hair done, or by buying a video, or even by practising on dolls or relatives, you would find wearing braids a lot less of a headache coz you'd be able to repair any that come out. And for those who haven't bought your hair extensions yet but are considering it, I guess that the hair that's least fine would be a lot less slippery? It does have a shine too, even though it may not look so in the store. Not sure if it'd stay on better but that's a thought. Also, I believe the extension hair might slide down your own if it is much heavier/thicker than the section to which it is attached. Always make sure it's less. Just my two cents.
Thanks nonie i will keep those things in mind, but the extenstion is braided pass my hair it seems to slip from the root of my hair and my hair is not too short to catch so why does it slip from the kitchen so much?
wow it like magic, just when i think about gettin micros here is post about them
ne way. i want micro or singles for my senor pic in late augest. i am scared about breakage. my hair is natural and i am going ot get the synthetic kinky hair and just blow dry the ends straight. i'm also goign to get an aphogee treat ment right before. though my hair is sorta fine and fragile do you think that if i mouisturize i will be okay?
Oh yes please moisturise before i always grease my hair before and i do a deep condition, micros are ok just don't let the person pull your hair too tight especially around the edges, also when wearing braids please keep your hair moisturise daily. I've been wearing micros for 2 1/2 years and i haven't had any breakage i think some people have breadkage b/c they don't take care of their hair while wearing braids and the hair is pulled to tight.
How are you going to blow dry synthetic hair i will love to see how it comes out so please post a pic.
Noonie, I'm sorry I didn't see your question before. I guess the "excessive" (?) slipping is just because your hair is relaxed. Do you always get a touch-up before braiding? Perhaps if you had it braided when you have some natural growth, it might hold better. I have natural hair and I think it's texture holds the extension piece in place. Also, I rarely buy the really silky human hair. I sorta go for the duller kind, being more interested in getting a color close to my hair color and a length where it'll extend beyond my hair when I braid. Even then, the hair I buy is still straighter and shinier than my hair but it blends in well with my own when I braid it (something I don't think the silkier hair would do too well). Taking those two textures into consideration, you can see why I'd have better grip - and thus less slipping.
(Psst, Noonie... uhmm...excuse the ignorance but what's yaki human hair?
if ur braids are slipping out then that means the braider didnt do a good job. they shouldnt be too tight but tight enough to sit on your scalp. the only other reason i can think of is if u have soft hair.
me and my best friend have been doing that forever. she used to braid my hair in ponytail. then we would use oil sheen (or baby oil)to blow dry the hair straight. eventually it would nap up but then i would take hair spray or spritz and oil sheen and the curl it. though the hair looks synthetic, the style holds and it is shiny. recently when i had corn rows i bought this hair by zury called like hair yaki braid. after it was in i used aloe vera gel (johnson's makes it but you a can get that at target) though the hair and blow dyed it on high while brushing it with a wig brush. you just gotta make sure you don't straighten it to much or it will start to melt.
I try not to get my hair relaxed but i have so much newgrowth that i can't stand it lol. I didn't get a relaxer this time and it still slip in the back and it's braided pass my hair so i don't know why it slips there first.
also i really don't know the real meaning of yaki human hair all i know is it's suppose to be better lol.
