How long do you our your stylist leave your relaxer in? Meaning, from time of application to rinse. Please indicate the strengh used, and name of relaxer. I refuse to be under-processed again, I'm I refuse to go to a salon for a relaxer. I'm planning to relax tommorrow, and really would appreciate ANY response I can get. I know many might think I should go to the salon, but I'm po and that's not an option right now, LOL. Plus, practice makes perfect. Right?

TIA

When I did go to the stylist( I stopped about six months ago)she used and affirm mild on my hair. She would leave it on for about twenty minutes. When my hair is relaxed it is a medium texture so the mild got my hair very straight. I love the affirm relaxer because my hair would always come out so silkly and straight without a lot of extra efort.

So do you self relax now? Or do you let someone do it for you? Them are the results I'm looking for. Any tips you all want to share on self-relaxing?

Revlon Realistic Regular strength. 5 minutes to apply. I leave it on for 15 additional minutes. I don't want straight hair. It's texturized.

I suggest doing a strand test to determine the amount of time and strength to use on YOUR hair. That is really the best way to make that determination.

Thanks! Yes, it's a lye relaxer. I wear it straight sometimes. There is a rollerset picture in the gallery too. I've been wearing it curly a lot lately because it's soooooooo easy. I've just been spraying it with African Royale Daily Doctor in the morning and I'm done. I love this stuff!

okay for me When I went to my old hairdresser she would use no lye and she used either TCB Super, Gentle Treatment regular of PCJ . And the whole time would be 45minutes. With my new hairdresser she puts Dudley's mild lye for 30 minutes max and the last one I used was Avlon's Fiberguard mild which did underprocess my hair. It only lasted for 3 weeks. But I hadn't had my hair relaxed in 6 months. I think if she had did half my head at a time it would have taken better.

I DON'T SELF RELAX. I GET MY HAIR PROFESSIONALLY RELAXED.
I USE GENTLE TREATMENT (REGULAR/NO-LYE) RELAXER.
SHE APPLIES IT AND WORKS IT IN FOR APPROX.20 MINUTES. CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT YOU WILL BE RELAXING YOUR HAIR YOURSELF, CONCENTRATE ON THE APPLICATION OF THE RELAXER, SO YOU'LL HAVE A CONSISTENT PROCESS ACHIEVED. YOU DON'T WANT ONE SECTION STRAIGHT AND THE OTHER SECTIONS WAVY!

GOOD LUCK!

I'm noticing a common relaxation time of about 20mins. I feel so silly. I've been texturizing my hair, by just leaving the relaxer on for about 10-12mis tops

And, I wonder why my head been looking a hot mess

.
Although it's thin, it's very puffy and resistant, so busy trying not to overprocess it, and been doing the complete opposite. I'm using Vitale w/ Aloe(lye) regular. Last relaxer was 8 weeks ago tommorrow. Been having alot of shedding, I figured it's because it's been underprocessed for soooo long, and needs to be properly processed.
What you all think?

Although my relaxer time is 20 minutes, I am using REGULAR strength, not mild, and my hair is texturized...which, is really underprocessed....and I want it that way. Again, I think you need to do a strand test to determine the proper time and strength for YOUR hair.

Have all of your materials at hand so you won't be runnig around searching while the process is going on. Pace yourself. I always set my timer. Just make sure to not leave the relaxer on for too long and smooth each section with the back of a rat tail comb. I have seen processing take up to 25 minutes for resistant hair. Also when shampooing make sure you remove all of the relaxer residue sometimes it would take about 2-4 washes. Make sure you do a deep conditioning afterwards. You are right, pratice does make perfect. I relax family and friends all of the time. Good luck!

I think the whole process should take no longer than 1/2 hou from start to finish.

As you asked me honeycomb I am posting my regimen on here. Hope this helps.

I relax my hair myself with Motions Mild. Total processing time is about 25 minutes.

Hey Gldspoon!

remember you were the one who told us to use Motions Mild (on another site)? Well it worked! Mild really is better because it gave me more smoothing time. Thanks!

hi stormy. I don't know if it was me who told you about motionss mild but mild is better because it processes slowly. The only way for you to get away with using a regular if it is from a REALLY good relaxer brand with lots of contioners in it like Affirm or Eulcence.
