I never cease to be amazed by hair progress photos. Are you solely still using the phonytail method or are you using other protective style methods?

yep, just the phonytail method. i think the reason that i don't try others is because this one requires the least amount of manipulation. i'm still battling the shedding issue.

Adrienne, I'm battling lots of shedding lately, too. I keep trying to tell myself what I told you about shedding to make myself feel better.
Adrienne - how often do you wash your hair and what is your method?

Adrienne,

I bet the shedding is because you keep your hair up all week without moving it. So, you know how braiders think they're losing alot of hair, but it's really just the hair that hasn't had a chance to shed while they were in braids? I think that's all it is with you. Nothing to be worried about!

I am so glad to hear this because lately I've had a lot of shedding and didnt know what to think. I wear my hair in plaits all week under a wig, and only take it down on saturday for my weekly hair ritual. Glad to know not to worry. Thanks

hairlove, i wash my hair once a week. i'd like to do it twice a week, but i lose alot afterwards so i don't. anyway, here is what i do:

i always comb good beforehand and remove the hair that shed while it was up all week. then i wash in the shower with my hair going back. i start with the detangling shampoo. i mainly use this around the edges and on my ends to remove all the activator and vaseline. then i put the Nizoral on and work it in good. i usually leave it on while i wash my body because you're supposed to let it sit on for at least 5 minutes. after that, i use a scalp brush to loosen the dandruff that i have from the psoriasis. it sucks... i only use that brush against my scalp. i don't run it along the length of my hair. i usually add the KeraCare shampoo on top of the Nizoral because it can be a bit drying. i work in the suds without piling my hair on my head or causing unnecessary tangles. so when i condition and comb, i lose a minimum of hair.

supergirl, the hair that i'm talking about is AFTER the hair that i lose as a result of not combing. it's definitely excessive sometimes, but i don't worry about it that much. i just don't wash as often because of it.

princessM, i can't conditioner wash because of the psoriasis. the only way i can keep it under control is with the Nizoral.

i think it's time for me to go back to using the phonytail method again. i had slacked off recently.

girl, curl activator sets my scalp on FI-YAH!!!

i try not to get it on there directly. i'm sure i have some inadvertent contact, but for the most part it doesn't get there. when i wash my hair and put it up, i really make sure that the leave-in is distributed throughout for moisture. i put the activator/gel mix on the outer layer and ends when putting my hair up for the ponytail.

oh yeah, i do apply the mix every day, but just to smooth, not throughout. i don't take the ponytail down until i wash again though.

With the Nizoral how do you apply it: To your scalp and scalp hair only, to scalp along with all of your hair or other?

Now that your hair is beyond waist length how do you gather your hair together befor putting it into the phonytail? Do you still braid it and then wrap it around the your ponytail holder before the baggie?

spagirl, i mainly apply the Nizoral to my scalp only, mostly because it costs so much. my cop-payment for the prescription is $25.00!

so i use it sparingly since it really doesn't do much for my hair anyway.

after detangling, i just comb my hair up toward the crown as i gather it into a ponytai. after putting the bolita on it, i then comb the loose hair out. yes, i still braid it, but now i wrap it tightly around itself so it's not too big under the phonytail.

imsovain, yes, i only comb my hair once a week. since i leave it up and braided all week, it doesn't get tangled again. the only thing i do daily is smooth my edges down.

Thanks Adrienne

, I also have started wearing a braid bun. I find that it keeps the moisture better than when I do a twist coil bun.

Adrienne,

Don't you just sick of the phony-tail? Do you still wear it with all the hair you have now?

I have gotten to a point where I just hate the phony-tail and the braids. I still wear them but I just don't like them anymore. Braids, I have never liked but I wore them anyway to aid my hair in the growth effort.

I'm looking for new protective styles. I like the S-curl, vaseline thing, makes my hair feel so soft, but I can't do it with every protective style.

Anyone have any suggesions?
