I had a jar, read the ingredients list and it listed sorbitol towards the top, which is a humectant, so I'm thinking, cool, a good water based moisterizer...it soaked into my hair and made it oh so soft and stopped breakage on my ends...cool !

I purchased another jar...looks the same, noticed when i tried to use it to "moisterize" my dry ends, it remained hard, UNmoisterized and slick, and still hard, my ends didnt soften as usuall, it acted more like a SEALER than a moister agent. My ends where chipping off again  ..so I checks the jar ingredients, it has MINERAL oil as the second ingredient...no wonder ! Mineral oil NEVER softens, it just sits on top of the hair with a slick feel and no moister enters the hair shaft....WTH is going on ???   ...

Am I seeing things ? Or has anyone else noticed this ? The 2nd jar does nothing for my hair

so on the 1st jar it didn't list mineral oil? they must have some how changed their ingredients:( . I use the ORS moisturizing hair lotion in the bottle and love it but it does have petrolatum listed further down on the ingredients list too. But since it's so far down it doesn't affect my hair much... I just make sure that I clarify more. If the petrolatum or mineral oil is higher up on the ingredient list then I personally wouldn't use it but that is just me;)

ETA: I have been noticing that on the ORS olive oil jars that the ingredients are never the same... I doubt if I buy the jars again.. I will just stick with the ORS lotion in the bottle and also the carrot oil in the jar since those ingredients seem to be permanent!! I can't stand it when companies can't make up their minds on the ingredients. I also don't agree with the ORS olive oil jar constantly putting mineral oil high up on the list while they advertise that carrot oil is petrolatum and mineral oil free.

Did you buy them from the same place? I think a while back the first one was discontinued. I like the ORS Olive Oil lotion in the bottle much better.

They did ? They changed the ingredients ? ....Wow ! I didn't know that...I didnt know co's do that...which is the latest one? The one with alot of mineral oil ?

nelli711 - I've been so busy i can't tell you where i bought that first jar...either sallys or this local BSS

texasqt - i doubt if i bought them at the same place, but i do know they are the exact same product, that's why i thought i was losing it  . Maybe i need to try the bottle one...is if VERY moisterizing ?

InnerSoul - on the first jar, IF it had mineral oil, it was not in the top of the group b/c that's what i was looking for. i remember in the top of things i didnt recognize was the sorbitol and when i investigated it, it's a humectant, so that's why that formular soaked into my hair...and softened..But as for the 2nd jar, mineral oil is HIGH on the ingredient list, it's the 2nd item! And it know MO will cloghair pores and resist growth....now, I've got to get some more of the other "formula"...if I can find it cause i don't know which is the latest formula

I am so glad someone posted this. I had the same thing happen to me!!! I brought the bottled one, the lotion, in walmart a few months ago. I happen to be in the dollar store and saw it on the shelf, I remembered that I had run out, so I grabbed it. Walmart is 30 miles away. I used it like I always had and it was not the same!! I looked at the top of bottle, my old bottle looked creamy at the top, this bottle did not. I just figure must be that dollar store syndrome.
I did not read the ingredients, so I am not sure what was in either. I just know I thought I had found my ONE true moisterizer!! This was also my 2nd bottle.:ohwell:

My recent jar also has mineral oil, but my ends are 100% better after applying and wrapping overnight. However, I did notice the ingredients in the hollywood beauty olive oil creme. They look better than ORS, I will be trying when the ORS is finished.

I have two jars of the Olive OIl, I have to check them when I get home. I used it today on wet hair and it moisturized like a dream...I'm HOPING they haven't changed the formula cause it actually worked nicely today! :(

I've had both of these jars for about a year and a half.

Same with me. I noticed how the same exact product did something TOTALLY different. THats what caused me to look at the 2nd jar..thinking, " what's in this stuff, i've already viewed the ingredients but lets lk again "... that's when I noticed the ingreds diff from what the 1st jar had. Unfort, i had already used it up, so i had nothing to go back to...I'm stuck.

I jus checked my jar and Mineral oil is the 4th ingredient. I don't see any sorbitol on it at all. I haven't used this lately anyway. I bought this around October or November last year. I've switched to Elasta QP Mango Butter.

even if it's the mineral oil ORS, it prob did seemingly moist well on wet hair because MO gives SLIP and mega shine...

But try using it on dry, rough ends...dry meaning not wet, and dry meaning needing moisture...I used it and my ends remained stiff and was slick...but the non MO version melted into the hair, like a water based moist, and let me mold my hair with my fingers plus it softened it ... i cant use the MO version to moist dry ends on dry hair, just doesnt work

I had gone to cvs to buy this since soo many of you use it but I saw the mineral oil and I wasn't sure if that was the only thing they changed. I bought the africans best organic olive oil creme instead.

Thanks for pointing this out. I noticed that the last couple of bottles I bought weren't agreeing with my scalp, so I've just been using the product on my ends. I didn't think to check the ingredients again.
I started using ORS because mineral oil wasn't a main ingredient in most of their products, but on this jar that I have, it's the second ingredient.

Exactly. Same thing happened to me. I don't want the MO preventing new growth from pushing thru.

The first bottle I bought about a year ago didn't have petroleum. Actually when the ORS products first came out I believe were "petroleum free". I bought a bottle a few days ago and it now contains petroleum. I believe they've changed the ingredients.

That must the 1st jar I had...b/c the jar in my hands now is almost pure Mineral Oil...its the 2nd ingredient...

I just bought this today. I just looked at the jar and mineral oil is the second ingredient. I guess I will use this on my ends only.

Hmmm sounds like that is the "new" formula. I need to go find a jar of the old. Thanks !

I bought this today at Rite Aid....

I saw this one today at Sally Beauty Supply, right before I bought the other jar at Rite Aid....

My hair hates this stuff.... I gave the jar away but I'm almost certain it was the second one. It left my hair feeling like a brillo pad. :(

Nope! You saw correctly! That is why I stopped using my ors...It made my hair dry and brittle.

I had the same experience! I bought a bottle of it and it was just horrible on my hair. It made my ends hard and brittle. I gave it three chances and all three times is did that. I am about to give it to my friend who uses it.

That bottled stuff was horrible for my hair - dry, crispy ends for days. I gave it to a friend to use on her daughter's hair.

Ditto on the crispy ends.:yep: I tried the version in the bottle. Aside from the mineral oil, it has great ingredients. It's a shame they changed the formula. Come on, ORS, you can do better!!

OMG!!! I have been moisturizing my hair like drinking water. No wonder its so dry. I'm pissed! I just paid $9.99 for the big jar. So, what do you ladies think about the carrot oil?

I love the carrot oil... especially since its written on the jar that there is no mineral oil or petrolatum in it.:) I also love their olive oil in the bottle although it has petrolatum in it... it's further down on the ingredient list. Their ORS jar olive oil ingredients change too much and they constantly put mineral oil high up on the list.. the one olive oil jar that I had listed sorbitol and no mineral oil but then my mom would buy the jars and mineral oil was in it... go figure!! therefore I am sticking with the carrot oil and the olive oil in the bottle.

It looks like the 6 oz jars have mineral oil in them, the 4 oz jars don't--they have water, coconut oil and sorbitol as the main ingredients.

Usually, I go for the 6 oz because I think I'm getting more for my money, but now that I've noticed this difference, I'll be sure to check the ingredients first and buy the better product.
