Hey - for all you ladies that use this oil, I have a few questions.

1. Is this a water-based product or is it plain old hair grease?

2. Pros?

3. Cons?

4. Notice any growth?

5. How well did it moisturize your scalp?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Kendra70,

I love ORS Olive Oil. It has done wonders for my hair, I use all of the Olive Oil Products (cream, mostirizuer, and the oil sheen). It literally woke my hair up:).

It is a waterbased product, it's not a grease.

I can use it on my new growth and it helps me to extend my perms to 10 weeks, before I used this product I was getting a relaxer every 4 weeks.

To me this product has been a god sent and I highly recommend its usage:)

I hope this helps you:)

hey kendra! :D

i use it too, and i have to say i'm also a fan. :)
i actually use it as a leave-in after i wash my hair. when it dries i don't have to add anything else for moisture, just style and go!

i'm not sure how it works on the scalp...i haven't greased my scalp in 1.5 yrs!

I LOVE the olive oil lotion it smells wonderful and it really moisturises. I will continue to buy it over and over. My hair looks so much healthier. I dont put anything on my scalp

I love it also, I use to use it all the time before LHCF. I dont know why I stopped. But I spray my daughters hair with it every now and then, especially when she has braids. I will then rub the excess off my hands by rubbing it on my hair as well.

I love this! Especially in the Northeastern Winters - the cold will just kill your hair. I moisturize my hair twice daily. I just started adding a few drops of EVOO to it, mixing it and then moisturizing my hair, especially my ends with it. My hair drinks this up, and given how cold it's been lately, my hair still feels soft and moisturized.

This is definitely a keep!

i love this as well. i like the moisturizer and oil sheen. i havent tried anything else, the carrot oil creme stinks! its not greasy, it is water based, but it can get a little cakey. by that i mean, that when i put it on every day, it kinda develops a build-up. i dont use it on my scalp, just my ends.

i likie what the product does but i hate the smell

What a good post. :) I have yet to try this and was wondering the same thing. So far I'm happy with my Hollywood's Olive Oil Cholesterol.

I love me some ORS Olive Oil!:) It's a great moisturizer especially since it's been so cold here in NY. It's not heavy on my hair, but then again my hair is underprocessed so it soaks up moisture. Works great on my ends. I use it on my scalp maybe 3 days a week. You can't go wrong with this stuff.

Oh, and their Carrot Oil is the bomb, too.:)

Hmmm ... I don't think I'll be able to use this. It's water based and if it's anything close to the consistency of Elasta QP's Mango Butter, then I'll pass - that mess dried my hair out something fierce!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions though ...

Edited to add: I guess I'm looking for a good hair grease.

**UPDATE** Re: Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil users - Come on in!

Okay, even though I said I wasn't going to use this, I went out and bought some anyway. I like it. For right now, I'm using it around my hairline to keep it moisturized since I'm stretching out my relaxer.

Are we referring to the moisturizer in the tall bottle or the "grease" in the jar?

Lisatamika - I'm referring to the grease in the jar.

I just exhanged the Hollywood Beauty brand (hated it...felt and looked like it was going to be the bomb after I put it on each strand after a roller set, but I was fooled!) for the ORS Brand and liked it much better. I like how it moisturizes, but I HATE the smell and it is a lil' too greasy for me. Nothing has been able to match my UBH Moisturizer! I just don't like paying S&H every time I order. I'm going to try to put in less ORS next time and see if it isn't that greasy, but I think I might end up taking it back cuz I can't stand the smell. It's not a bad smell...just a grease smell...I like good smelling hair stuff. I mean DANG....they could have thrown a lil' bit of fragrance up in there! And I read where someone asked about Mango Butter...it's nothing like it. I didn't like the Mango Butter Moisturizer either...gave it away cuz it didn't moisturize at all!

I have read on the board that mineral oil is bad 4 the hair and it is listed at like the 3rd or 4th ingredient of the ORS grease. Is it still usable?

I use it as a leave in conditioner after the ORS mayo. It makes my hair silky soft. I love this stuff!

I've used the lotion and I love that...I don't know why I haven't got the one in the jar yet...especially considering I love the Carrot Oil in a jar :scratchch.

I used the olive oil lotion in the bottle (not the grease) for a short time last year. I stopped using it because:
1. i didnt like the smell and
2. it seems like my hair would just drink it up immediately and i had to keep applying it often to keep my hair from feeling dry

I just started using the one that comes in the bottle--the liquid one. Love it. No mineral oil other good for you oils, perfect after a roller set to seal in moisture and before wrapping the hair in a satin scarf at night.

Excellent thread, I am new here and I am interested in getting the ORS to repair damaged hair. Looks like something I am willing to give a try. Has anyone used the olive oil relaxer they make at all any comments on that thanks

Michelle

Hi Kedra,

I use ORS Olive oil (lotion in a jar) and love it. I was dissappointed to see one of the ingredients is mineral oil. As soon as it's finished, I'm going to stick w/the carrot oil which has the same ingredients sans mineral oil.

I too used mango butter and threw it out for drying my hair. But ORS seems to really moisturize my hair very well. I'm not a oil person, my hair responds better to hair lotions like ORS and creamy leave ins. Hope this helps...

If you use Kemi oil try adding anywhere from 1/2 bottle -whole bottle of it to the Mango Butter (depending on what's right for you), I had that same problem with the butter drying my hair out til I added some kemi oil.... hth! :) Also, if you really just want a grease try ORS's soy oil...I love it it's not too light or heavy and smells great, plus gives great shine!

I love their olive oil products! I use them a lot when I have my sewn in weave, heps keep my hair moisturized.

I have had this stuff sitting in my cabinet for a while. I had been sufferning from dry hair for about a week and I put some of the ORS Olive Oil in my hair and I was pleasantly surprised. I will definitely be purchasing more of this stuff.

I really like the ORS Olive Oil line I have used all the products except the grease.

All of you have given me some great ideas. The ORS olive oil that comes in a jar has really helped keep my hair soft - but I'm actually thinking about trying another oil that doesn't have mineral oil in it.

The one is the bottle does nothing for my hair. It soaks it up like a sponge. My hair is very thick type 4 hair, so that could be the reason. :ohwell:

Although, my daughter has type 3 hair and it just sits on top of her hair and leaves a nasty residue. :nono:

The ORS in the jar, is by far my favorite. It's light & creamy and keeps my hair moisturized all day. A little goes a long way.

I highly recommend it!:yep:
