Here we go.............

I asked a stylist in my nearby fancy BSS about doing cornrows.. He immediately started telling me about a relaxer he could give me.....

What? I asked you about cornrows!!!

These people will never ever learn that some folks like natural hair.....:nono::nono::nono:

Thats how they do. I saw a little girl at the dominican salon a few months back being told she needs a perm ( 4A mbl hair) and it wont be a "real" perm because they will put lots of conditioner in it..........riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Jeez... Is that all some of these stylists know?

Unfortunately, yes.

1. The one and only time I went to the Dominican salon, the first question that the shampoo guy asked me was, "When is the last time you had a perm?"

2. A few months before my wedding, I went to the salon to get a weave. I had washed & put oil on my hair before I came. When I pulled off my hat, the stylist looked at my hair and, in a less than pleasant tone, said to another stylist, "Oh, she's natural."

:wallbash::rolleyes: Wow what a jerk! Did he still do it? Did it turn out well?

The margin is in the relaxer. If they buy in bulk, it's less than $10 per application and they can charge you $60+ for it so stylists will stay pushing relaxers.

But I agree with the OP's sentiment, I dislike it when people try to upsell me when I ask for a specific service.

She still did my hair & the style turned out nice. I took it out four days later because I was allergic to the extension hair (which she took from her drawer) that she braided into my hair.

It gets tiresome, but some people prefer to stay in one mindset, without appreciating others can exist without threatening their own.

Well, it's possible the stylist knows nothing about cornrows and was attempting to divert you. Watch for the "Car Fox" Carfax commercial; you'll see what I mean :lachen:

I'm relaxed, but I do understand the frustration. God forbird you don't relax at 4 weeks and you have to keep answering the same stupid questions from family: "When you are getting a perm?"

It still astounds me that people seem to think that the only thing you can do for black hair is to relax it.
